When I arrived at the hotel I immediately regretted not paying more for a better hotel. I stayed in a single room, and the only positive side with this hotel was the included breakfast and location, about 15 minutes walk from the Altstadt. Just on the opposit of the road there was a Best Western hotel that I dreamt of... More

Very good hotel, never expected to get such a level of quality for this money. Very clean, really rich breakfast and close to central station and aldstadt.

As has been said before, the Monopol is a no frills hotel in a very good location. The rooms are small and could do with updating but were kept very clean, the staff are friendly and helpful and a decent breakfast is served. Proabably the thinest bed single bed in the world but also one of the comfiest too. This... More

3 stars feels a tiny bit generous for this place, but 2 is way too mean, so 3 it is. Good things: The location is convenient for Ostrstrasse U-bahn station, from which you can easily reach Heinrich Heine Allee (or walk on a nice day) and Hauptbahnhof, and (in my case) my client's office near Theodor Heuss Bruecke. The staff... More

I stayed here for three nights with some friends, one of whom booked the trip. It is very conveniently situated for the main station (Hauptbahnhof), as you can either walk (about 5 mins) or take the underground (U-bahn) and then walk about 2 mins. It makes a big difference if you have a heavy case! Check-in was no problem, and... More

The Monopol is good for one or two nights and if you're just looking for a basic, no-frills room. The bed is two twins pushed together, which is the case in most of Europe, and the bathroom was sufficient. Good location- about 10 minutes' walk to the Aldstadt and a block from the subway. I was pleasantly surprised with the... More

If you hark back to your early traveling days when money was tight and all you wanted was a bed to lay your weary bones.......the Monopol is the kind of place you would have stayed in. Cheap and Cheerful...less than 1 mile from the train station and right on the main shopping drag. Hiker at the front desk was helpful... More

We spent one night at the Monopol in Jan 2007 and found it excellent value for 50 euros. For anyone wanting to see the art galleries and museums, as we did, it is very convenient. Also it is within walking distance of the station. The room was clean and pleasant and the bathroom had a full bath tub. Breakfast had proper... More

We stayed here the third week of July 2006 when all of Europe was having a heat wave. This put the Monopol hotel at an unexpected disadvantage, since the rooms are not air conditioned. We had two fairly large rooms at the front of the hotel, and in the winter, spring or fall we suspect they would be perfectly fine... More

The Hotel is clean, the staff are very helpful, the breakfast is good BUT room 403 (and I presume there are others) is a converted broom cupboard with no air conditioning, hardly big enough to swing any cat small enough to get in, and was the setting for the worst night I have spent in any hotel. It really is... More
