I stayed in Mainz for two nights as a nice mid point between Munich and Paris. Mainz is cheaper than Frankfurt and a more natural base for exploring the Rhineland. When I arrived a friend of the owners Klaus and Uschi checked me in and showed me to my room as they were returning from a vacation of their own....

The hotel is tucked in a corner of the Dom Cathedral square, next to the Guttenberg Museum. The square is pedestrian only, but we did drive our rental car right up to the door to offload our bags, then had to park about 2 blocks away in a city garage (the hotel credits the cost back to you). We arrived at the hotel at about 14h00 and when we found no one we decided to do the Gutenberg Museum Tour. Afterwards we found Ushi who was very friendly and helpful. The Rooms are very big. I stayed at the Hotel Schwann for a conference in the Rheingoldhalle. It turned out to be a much better choice than the soulless Hilton with a nice 5 min walk in the morning to get to the conference. I had been on a two week business trip where I was booked in large, efficient hotels with crowded dining rooms and high priced Internet access, so the Schwan was just what I wanted. Small, family run, and just off the main square, the Schwan is quaint and quiet (at least inside), and the proprietors were helpful and a pleasure...

I stayed in Mainz just for one night for a business trip. This hotel was clean, quiet and charming, and located in a nice area of Mainz. I would definitely stay here again. The price was also quite good.
