Detailed Reviews
My girlfriends and I booked a stay at the Hostal Mar del Plata for a weekend stay, and could not have made a better choice. We were so welcomed here, the beds were comfortable and you could tell that the owner had put her heart and soul into this place. She was full of great suggestions for the area as well as the island, and never led us astray. Needless to say, we never wanted to leave.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a triple room (family of three). The hostel is well located for beach and the welcome was lovely. The owner was very helpful and kind when we lost our safe key.
However we found lugging heavy suit cases up several flights of stairs, no air conditioning and the noise of other residents horrible. We knew this was a budget hotel when we booked it and the general cleanliness and decor were OK, but we didn't sleep due to heat and noise and landing lights coming on every time a party goer came home. Don't stay here if you need more than 2 hours sleep per night!!

Good, cheap hostal. Very friendly owner. Rooms cleaned daily. Very clean. In times of cold, a little cold in the rooms but they are heated bed. Close to the beach. From the airport about 15 minutes by bus, which is 5 minutes from the hostal. The nearest large hypermarket approximately 5-10 minutes walk. I recommend.

DO NOT ARRIVE LATE!!! Or she won't let you in and you will not get a refund. We upset her by trying to help a young couple who arrived late. But it didn't get them in even though the young lady is pregnant. She then played dumb she speaks better English than she let's on.
She then locked our case's in and disappeared for hours so that we almost missed our flights.
Fernanda is as mad as a box of frogs she doesn't care about bad reviews just wants your money!!

Despite the fact that me and a friend had paid 80 euros for the room, which was supposed to be a treat in comparison to cheaper hostels we had stayed at in Mallorca, it was a nightmare. We could have overlooked many things, like the rigid check-in policy (it was from 14 to 20 hrs NO OTHER SOLUTIONS WERE AVAILABLE AS FROM 20:01), no soap being offered despite the pricy room, the strange posters in the room (forbidding you to wash any piece of clothing there, to plug in fans, although a fan was available), a towel that was not properly washed as it had visible stains, IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE UNFRIENDLY AND IMPOLITE ATTITUDE OF THE OWNER. Given that we were on a train on the island we called the hostel at 18:30 to ask what would happen it we didn't make it until 20:00. Our first 2 calls were not answered, nor our voice mail messages. When we finally did speak to the owner, I addressed the owner in Spanish and we were abruptly told that the time table is fixed and that there is absolutely no solution (we proposed leaving the key in a desginated place, as other hostels do). The tone that the owner, Fernada, used was aggressive and the expressions (e.g mira, reina, en el aeropuerto el piloto no te espera) were inappropriate for customer care. The conversation became absurd as she proposed no solution whatsoever and insisted we had better get there until 20:00. Eventually we arrived to the hostal at 20:07 only to find a locked door! We could not believe that the owner had willingly left knowing we were going to be a bit late. Our dozen of calls and messages to the number posted on the door were not answered and no staff was there. As we waited there (about 45 minutes), I spoke to a police man and inquiered on what would happened if we had to find another hotel, despite having paid for that one and he advised us to report it at the local police station (poner una denuncia en comisaria). As we were about to leave and do this, a young lady wth some laundry bags appeared, and, when asked she confirmed she worked there. She proved to be the owner's daughter. Confused to find us there and hearing our story, she called Fernada, the owner. The conversation was carried out in Spanish and included comments like < No puedo, ya me han pillado (I can't they have already caught me here)>, <No me corresponde a mà decirles eso, ven tu y les dices (It's not my job to tll them this, you come and tell them).> Then she made the check in with us standing in a dark reception room, as if we were beggars or something and we could finally get the room. The next morning the owner was there, and, although she appeared to not speak English on the day before when she spoke to us on the phone, she went on with the check in in English, asking about our ke, etc and smiling as if nothing had ever happened. At no point did we receive any apologies or compensation for having to wait confused in the street and having 2 days of our holiday ruined. And, unbelievably enough, we were charged an additional 20 euros 4 days later! When I called the hostal the same rude lady said it was for having checked in late (despite arriving at just 20:07) and that she had no time for silly discussions on the matter, as we were lucky to have had where to sleep that night! The most absurd experience ever.

Everything looked fine but when we left they charged us 14 euros. I sent them an email asking for explanation and they said that was because one towel was too dirty... They keep your card details and they charge you without forewarn.

Like others here, I arrived past 8 PM. I had emailed them before arrival, stating that my flight would arrive at 7:50PM, and I would most likely get there a little after 8. I arrived at 8:15 and no one was there. I was traveling ALONE and was stuck with no where to stay. Luckily I found another hotel. I called the next day and the reception couldn't have given less of a crap and refused to provide a refund. I was new to solo travel, and did not have cell service, so naturally, I was hysterical and totally freaked out- not to mention exhausted. Please please please don't go here. I rarely write hotel reviews, unless I had an exceptionally good or terrible experience. This was by far the worst accommodation service I've ever encountered and two months later, I still get fired up about it. What type of hotel/hostel in SPAIN closes at 8 pm???? Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. There are plenty of other, better, and cheaper places near by, that actually offer decent service.

Avoid this hostel! They canceled our entire booking without informing us and kept our money, leaving us stranded in the cold and without a place to stay. The staff was rude and uncaring, and kicked us out saying it's not their problem! Unbelievable.

They keep your credit card details and they are finding excuses charging you an amount when you leave. They charged me 14 euros with the excuse that 1 towel was dirty.Dont they wash them? The bathroom was dirty and too small that you couldn't barely move. The chairs at the balcony was covered with dust and seems like no one had wash them for a very long time. They also charge you extra for wifi in all areas.

On the email I received they said my room was guaranteed for late arrival, which is a LIE.
I tried to contact them and been so rude to me, even if it wasn't my fault I was late.
Tried to contact them the day after and told me the room was gone, and they have no intention of giving me the money back.
All of these because I went to check-in after 20.00 (which on the email was okay).
Here NEVER AGAIN.
