Detailed Reviews
Was here just after christmas at the end of an epic journey. Enjoyed my time, good rooms, location and reasonable prices for food & accommodation. The staff were helpful with all my silly questions and requests! Definantly recommend.

The hostel may not be in the first flush of youth but the location of the place and the friendliness of the staff more than make up for any shortcomings. The rooms are basic but clean. Breakfast is included and is very adequate. A full English breakfast can be obtained at minimal cost and it is very filling indeed. In fact the food served at the hostel is very good. It is a limited evening menu but the quality defies the actual cost. An evening meal is 12 euros. including a glass of wine! We never got through to the desert as Elin provided gargantuant portions,
The staff are superb and they all either speak English or can make themselves understood by most people with a higher IQ than a slug.
The location of the hostel really does give it an edge as it is within shouting distance of the Cathedral, night life and a massive amount of top class shops. It is also within 300 yds of the sea for those wishing to partake of the views of ships. My wife and I had 2 lovely weeks there and if we return to Palma then Hostal Ritzi will be the top of my list.

A nice, comfortable place with very firendly and warm staff.
It was especially good that they could cater for us vegetarians (and even had bikes for hire).

Great hostal, location is superb! Don’t forget to check out the rooftop. What a view.. Myriam is a great host, super friendly and makes a mean gin-tonic. Luggage service with shower, even when checked out in the morning

After reading many good reviews on this hostal, I have to say they are all spot on. I could not have picked a better place for position, price and very helpful staff/owners.They also do a great 3 course meal for 10 euros. A taxi to Pl. Reina and you have about 30 yards up Apuntadors to the Hostal Ritzi. I used the local bus (No.1)every 15 mins from the airport to Passeig Mallorca and walked through the town (5-10 mins)Bus fare was 1.85 Euros. What a great nightime atmosphere around this area, with choices galore for eating and drinking. A good variety of spanish food and friendly service has to be Pepe's which is only 20 yards from H. Ritzi. There are many good places to eat and drink but they have all been covered in other reviews. One of the paces I would recommend (H. Ritzi helped me locate it)is Celler Sa Premsa in Placa Bisbe Berenguer de Palou 8. A few blocks left of Pl. Espanya.(approaching from the south it is on the right hand side, southern end – A large dining hall lined with large wine barrels (front parts). The choice of dishes was large , with a great variety of tapas available. Excellent variety meat and fish main dishes which can make your decision a difficult one The service from the staff was fast and friendly.

We discovered Hostal Ritzi on our last holiday to Mallorca. We decided to go budget on this trip as we always stay in 3 and 4 star hotels and yet it occured to us that we spend most of our time outside of the hotel enjoying the city so why waste money on it. Inspired by our daughter's recent shoe-string travels we decided to take the pluge into the budget hotels. I have to say it was a real delight. Sure it wasn't fancy big fluffy towels and big screen TVs but it was clean and VERY friendly. The people and place was so endearing that it really opened my eyes to what I had been missing and brought back my own backpacking days across Europe. If you're looking for somewhere basic, friendly with a lot of charm you can't go past Hostal Ritzi. I also had a lot of fun at the bar - SO CHEAP!!

It's not that bad, but after our last stay in late 2003 we won't be going back. There's one on-suite room (room 10, it handily ha(sd) a fridge).
Back in late 2002 we found that one of the sliding doors on the shower had gone (it's a corner shower). Okay, maybe it had just happened and they'll get around to fixing it soon. One year later and it's still missing. Sums up the place, the toilet roll holder was also broken on the last visit, and the fridge light bulb had blown.
Also, they don't always clean the room if you've had a late night sleep in until the afternoon.
At 50 euros a night it's not that cheap for a 1* hostal, and it's this lack of attention to detail that makes it not worth bothering with again.
Overall, it has "seen better days" written all over it.

We recently got back from the Balearic Islands in Spain. Stayed at the Hostal ritzi in Palma, which we thought was pretty good - I liked the old world spanish charm of the place. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable - which was all we needed. The food there was good too - you could get a three course meal in the evenings for only €10(and that included a glass of wine). Beer and wine was cheap as well. We also had pretty decent breakfasts there - set me up for all our sight seeing during the day! My boyfriend is a vegetarian, and they were able to cater for him (we just let them know when we booked). I'd recommend staying here - it was good value and had a lovely traditional spanish feel.

I am inclined to agree with the contributor who headed his review "An absolute Nightmare", but unfortunately I did not read it before I booked into the Hostal Ritzi. I was pursuaded by some of the first few glowing reports that I had read. I made a telephone booking a few days before my travel date in December 2006. I was travelling alone and staying in Palma for 4 nights so requested a room with private bathroom facilities. I was therefore offered a double room with en suite facilities at a cost of 230 euros and booked accordingly. The following criticism is not influenced in any way by the fact that my flight from Dublin via Heathrow to Palma was delayed for some hours. Nor was I dismayed by the heavy rain on my arrival. I ran from the taxi to the anticipated warmth of the Ritzi in great need of relaxation and a good wash. I began to doubt my choice as I climbed the metal stairs to the entrance but was greeted by a friendly lady who answered the bell. She sought payment in cash in advance but I had not yet changed all of my English pounds to Euro and paid 100 euro before seeing the room (a mistake). The lady offered to retain my passport until the balance was paid but I explained that I required my passport to negotiate the necessary Pound/Euro exchange (good decision). I was then given a key to the front door and a key to my room. In reception there were three guys looking pretty miserable as they were streched out on some seating watching a small TV. I climbed a further two floors to Room 30 and was dismayed by the appearance of my facilities. The room had a double bed which seemed adequate and there was also another bed/settee type of thing present. I was not impressed by the fusty smell of the room and attempted to open a window which denied my attempts. The bathroom was a disaster (but there were clean towels). The shower was located over a bath over which a filthy plastic curtain hung on a rail. The small bathroom window was open which had let in the rain and many winged insects which seemed to welcome the shower facility much more than I did. I chose not to risk showering and pondered my plight. I decided "What to Hell man" I was there now and it was raining so there was no point in searching elsewhere for more suitable accomodation. Despite my immediate disgust I found an electric heater which provided some homely warmth to the room and due to exhaustion was able to sleep until daybreak. I declined Breakfast in the morming but had a cup of coffee and left to get some fresh air and a local cafe. Deciding that complaining would not have resulted in enhancing my accommodation I abandoned any thought of returning to the Ritzi. Searches revealed that there was more superior accomodation available in the City at a lesser tariff than that which I had been charged. For example single accomodation in an en suite double room at the Costa Azul was less than £30 per night BB. I think that the owners of the Hostal should reappraise their facilities and tariffs if they are serious about the business. The pictures alrady published of this particular premises gave a really false impression of the facilities.

Ive been staying at Hostal Ritzi many times since 2003. By accident I had a talk with one of the owners, a Norwegian woman, at a pub in Oslo, Norway, and got the adress. I forgot about it until I and a travelcompanion searched Palma for a place to stay, at first visit, when the receptionist at a hostal in old part of Palma suddenly adressed us in Norwegian (Bergen). We rented a car and drove around Mallorca, but returned often to Hostal Ritzi, just behind plaza Reina, by the big church. - I rate Ritzi as excellent, even if its a simple hostal. I base it on a evaluation of all important values seen together, with speciel stress on cost/benefit, as well as location city, staff, atmoshere etc.
- Ritzi is ideally located in the old town of Palma. Its very nice to have holiday in Palma and its environment; a charming easygoing city. Check out concerts in Barcelona Jazz across the street! And a city for fun! Living the Globo Rocko! - Ritzi is a simple and tasteful low cost hostal. The Hostal is very tastefully furnished and decorated, in Spanish tradition. You can chose between rooms with/without shower/ -WC. Ive never chosen wc/shower and have had no problems with that; one of the facilities in hall are always available. - Ritzi has a wonderful good humoured staff; mostly Norwegian women, but also one from GB.English breakfast is possible-
In all; very, very good value for money!!

They are provided by the Ritzi (but not for use at the beach!)
Jayne G asked a question Sept 2017
Nottingham, England, United Kingdom25 contributions26 helpful votesAre all rooms shared bathrooms we have asked for room with bathroom is there a hair dryer thanks
No, just a few rooms share bathrooms. The prices are little different. I stayed in the one of those-no hair dryer. Maybe the more "expensive" rooms have.
Jayne G asked a question Jan 2017
Nottingham, England, United Kingdom25 contributions26 helpful votesare there any lifts or is it just stairs
I can't remember seeing any lifts but I could be mistaken. We just used stairs, and there are many of them, because most rooms are located on upper floors. Maybe you can get in touch with the management, it's possible they have better accessible rooms.
