Lovely hotel! Situated on the hills overlooking the sea as you walk into the hotel. We were, what I'd deem, at the back of the hotel and we had the pleasure of watching the clouds roll of the mountain, it was beautiful. Unfortunately the scenery...More

It the same hotel I stayed at when it was called the Canaria Spa and was very popular with SAGA but they were a chain of hotels and there must have been some sort of problem for one day all the SAGA people were kept in the hotels (the whole chain) until something financial was sorted out. It is a pity because as you said there are few british there and if you travel there alone it can sometimes feel as if you aren't in Spain either. I too faced the goats. They belong to one of the farmers and since before tourists they have been grazing the barranca sides. It found strange to me that we as such an expensive hotel and people with money were right alongside those who had very little at all. I imagine that when the Guanche lived in the caves along the barranco that they took the goats inside for protection. Now of course Tenerife has no water of its own and it has to come from another island. Some of them do flood a bit if there is a huge amount of rain, but not often. The back windows were a lot were, they just looked at the side of the rocks built into the hotel a few feet away. The wasteland at the back was to be houses but the funding came to a stop at some time and only a few roads related to them are left. Did you see the kites and other unusual birds drifting aloft? I quite like the small garden that had music at night, except that I ended up with bits from something each time. The staff usually assume you are German, so one of them spent some time speaking to me in german until I explained to them in Spanish that I was not German! I know a few who wander unknowingly into the nudist area, as they didn't understand the Spanish word for nauralista, which means naked. So we had a laught about that as she was looking for nature and interesting birds! They didn't have chickens there then but they did have a cleaner who had an awful cold and I ended up in bed for a week as a result feeling awful. Yes, it does seem a long way from the town and I was there for carnival so up and down a lot so I doubt I would stay there again. My room was above the restaurant so for at least an hour before say lunch the room smelled of food, in fact it never seemed to go away. I too also saw a lot of young people without an guidance behaving badly. They seem to put them in there when they have no other hotel to put them for some reason as they didn't stay long. Glad to enjoyed it though and I am sorry SAGA no longer use that chain as some of their hotels were really nice. Thanks for your review.
