We have been visiting the hotel Mencey for 20 years and we will not come back. We staid for 2 weeks in June and the experience this year has been quite unpleasant. We never felt the Mencey was in many ways a “real” 5-star hotel, but it has other qualities that were very convenient for us. In addition, there have always been many events in this hotel but until now we have been able to forgive the inconveniences that these cause for the guests. However this year all the lines have been crossed. The hotel has turned into a nice sports club for members (not hotel guests) and a great venue for events at the expense of guests' comfort. Personal trainers in the gym that kick you out of the space you're using to train their clients. Swimming courses for children at the pool, bathrooms converted into showers and changing rooms after the lessons. Gardens and terraces turned into a schoolyard where groups of parents chat, and towels, bags and snacks accumulate while siblings play soccer. Enjoying the spa and its services is also difficult since practically everything is already booked. We did not try to use the tennis/paddle court but it seems also very popular too. The gastronomic offer is very limited. The pool restaurant is only open from Friday to Sunday (or any day for the private events). Niqqei, Aborigen and Papa Negra restaurants are closed. The WiFi in the rooms is poor and unreliable. Depending on who you talk to at the reception, they provide you with a quiet space with better coverage to work or they ask you to leave because you have not booked and paid for it. The staff in general seems to be divided into two worlds where some are super friendly and the others are rude and make you feel anything but welcome. We had an interesting conversation with the manager days before we left. After our complaints we were offered a voucher for a massage in the spa. Massage that we could not enjoy since it was impossible to make an appointment, the very few free slots available until our departure day were at times very inconvenient for us. Conclusion. If you are looking for a sports club in the area or a venue for your event this is a great place and the staff will make sure that hotel guests do not disturb you. If you are looking for a hotel: a) for vacation I do not recommend it; b) for work/telework I do not recommend it; c) to combine vacation and work I do not recommend it.

Stayed 4-16th March and it was our 4th visit. Hotel is located a short walk from many great local restaurants , the park and into the main shopping area. Rooms are generally a good size, kept very clean and towels/ bedding changed regularly. Only problem we've always found is the shower doors always leak, so you have to mop up with towels. Our first week was wonderful. We enjoyed the gym and poolside. Customer service helped us hire a car for the day with a local company. (30 Euro). We enjoyed the many wonderful local restaurants. Then I fell sick (not covid-19 !) and the Coronavirus restrictions started to kick in. This is when the staff and hotel excelled. Nothing was too much bother. They frequently asked what they could do for us. Pointed my wife in direction of local chemists, shops, etc during shutdown. Special mentions to Laura (Customer Services) and Ayesha (Gym) who were always friendly and helpful. But everyone was friendly and helpful during an extremely stressful time for everyone. We hope to return as soon as we can and hope everyone survives through this difficult period and the Hotel retains its excellent staff.

Due to the corona virus I couldn't actually profit from all amenities as everything was closed. Hence, I am also not able to assess the hotel with the best critics meaning 5 points. But I am sure it ordinary times it is worth it. Iberostar Grand Mencey offers an amazing breakfast buffet and staff being very motivated, friendly and braving the extraoedinary situation. In fact, the hotel even locked down temporarily. Couldn't use the SPA offered but the gym once before it was not allowed anymore. Great location in general. Walking distance to the city centre and the coast. Only point to criticise is the ongoing construction work close to the hotel which made me waking up every single night. That basically applies to the rooms facing to the beach. I will return, probably in 2021, to finally spend real holidays here!
