It would be such a wasted opportunity to stay anywhere else when you visit Leon. OK, it's not the best location - a good 15 minute walk to the Cathedral and old town - but it IS the most impressive place. How often does one get the chance to stay in a Renaissance building, complete with cloisers, art works antiques...

We stayed here for two nights.Leon is a great place to wander round and soak up the architecture and atmosphere. The hotel is beautiful with excellent rooms and very efficient service.Free on site parking is a bonus. The breakfast is a treat with a good selection of food on offer and bottles of Cava and red wine to kick start the...

A fabulous old building at the front ,including a galleried cloister and museum with modern accommodation to the rear with a fine collection of paintings on almost every wall. This is easily the best Parador we have stayed in. The rooms were spotless and well appointed for the price. The service was quick and friendly and the breakfast was a...

My wife and I had been planning to stay in this hotel for years. And it did not disappoint. When we saw this renaissance jewel with its vast plaza on our arrival, we knew this hotel was unlike anything we had ever stayed in before and for such a reasonable rate The room was spacious and never felt like a...

This beautiful building looks wonderful when you arrive, and we were looking forward to five star accommodation, in a wonderful 'museum' setting, with fantastic historical artifacts around us - however, we were rather disappointed with the state of the hotel fixtures, the carpets were very grubby and the room although 'grand' was not luxurious as we would have expected! We...

A knockout Paradore. Located in a medieval hostel/ hospital for pilgrims, this place has been renovated into a five star experience. Our room was large, well furnished, with a balcony overlooking a lovely garden. Common rooms were beautiful, and an ancient courtyard was a lovely place to stroll and take photos. Had dinner in the restaurant and the food And...

This parador is terrific. It's like staying in a museum. The rooms was very comfortable with a king size bed. The parador has lots of areas to explore, with great artwork on the walls. There is a church and museum all situated within the parador. The restaurant served very tasty food and the service was professional. The bar area is...

We had made the reservation (we only wanted the old part of the hotel) some months before and had great expectations. The entrance was already huge and very stunning. We get the tower-room on the 5th floor. A rather long walk but we liked it. The room was about 40 m2 and also a large bathroom. We looked to the...

Like all Paradors, this one is top quality for cleanliness, comfort and service. The best part of this one is that the in the 12th Century it became the headquarters for the Knights of the Order of Santiago who protected the Pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. You can feel the history here and the ancient monastery courtyard is a...

Beautiful historic building with unique history. History is well documented elsewhere so no need to do so here. Staff excellent. Breakfast and evening restaurant brilliant but snacks in bar limited. Well worth staying.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hostal de San Marcos is one of the most extraordinary historic hotels on the Old Continent. Construction of the building was begun in the 16th century, together with the bridge across the River Bernesga in the outskirts of León. It was built to house the peninsula's western headquarters for the Military Order of Saint James. The project was financed by King Ferdinand the Catholic.
