We visited Bcn for four days in May - three days it was pouring rain, one day sun shone. This really affected our experience about both city and the hostal. If it was a great sunny times, I believe this hostal would have been perfect. But as it was really cold and wet outside, unfortunately the hostal was chilly too....

Hostel martina is in a good location about 5 min walk to the arc del triomf and around 12 mins walk to plaza catalunya. It is in a block on the 1st floor which is accessible by an old lift or by the stairs. It is an old building with a catalonian style and the original ceramic floor tiles. The...

This was a third world place. Arrived a summer afternoon with no chance to find anything else. A bare, bare room with a cheap, cheap bed. No furniture. The shower was laughable. You sat on the bed and thought of an urban gulag in the 1950. They also demanded cash in advance. There was no place to stay late that...

My partner and I, plus another couple, booked two rooms at Hostal Martina. We were greeted by a friendly, fluent English speaking young woman, who gave us maps, pointed out places to visit etc. When we asked if there were tea or coffee making facilities we were told there were not. There is no lounge. For the entire 4 days...

Hostal Martina is perfect if you are looking for piece of simple but authentic Barcelona. Good central position, 15mins walk from Placa Catalunya or 2 stops on the metro. We enjoyed the very basic but authentic room decor, both cealings and floors are original from the early 1900's. Original balconies, very pretty stained glass window detail in the bathroom, fairly...

We rented the large double with a private bath and felt that it was totally worth the price. There was lots of extra room. It could have slept an additional two people! The shower was great although there was a curtain instead of a door on the bathroom, The building itself was authentic and gorgeous. It looked like it still...

i booked this hostal based on trip advisor comments and from looking at the hostal website - and got a nightmare. I couldnt find the hostal which was a long walk, then they told me they did not have my booking and that they were overbooked. Communication was terrible as they could only speak spanish and they didnt show much...

The Hostal Martina is located perfectly for anyone wanting to really see Barcelona. There was no need for us to get public transport, everywhere was within an easy walking distance - Barri Gothic, Sagrada Familia, the beaches, the Ramblas and the Placa Catalunya, with metro stations nearby for those who need to take a train occasionally. It's also easy to...

very nice. Small, simple but clean with big windows and iron balcony. with a small table , chairs. The staff is fun and cordial. There is a lounge with beautiful mosaics where you can help yourself to teas and coffee and read a magazine, or take a cup to your room. The only critic is that Carrer Bailen is quite...

Completely agree with the last reviewer. I don't know how I managed to find the hostel online as there were no reviews on Trip Advisor prior to the first one! Glad I did as it was great value for money considering the location and building. Gorgeous old building and very simple rooms with private bathrooms should you wish, only 75...

Staying in Eixample

Neighbourhood Profile
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
