So we had a bit of a panic when we were directed down a dark alley at night by the taxi driver... But the hotel is lovely when you find it. Breakfast is the best we have had and the staff were great. The rooftop bar is great for drinks after dinner. But... The pool is tiny tiny tiny. Also...

When you enter the hotel, you get a sense of how it's been beautifully and thoughtfully designed. The lobby bar has a 100 year old gothic fireplace. But the goodness simply ends there! The rooms lack a proper window or any sort of ventilation. I began to feel claustrophobic very quickly. My nights were sleepless as I used to keep...

We were greeted very nicely, and could check in earlier, than the normal time. We had a deluxe room, which was quite small and had no natural daylight, as it was facing an atrium. But on the other hand, we were not very often in the room, and we had a very good night sleep, as it was quiet! The...

Really good hotel for the price. Easy central location for visiting the whole city, and the reception staff and everybody we encountered are very helpful. The room was clean and nice, and the rooftop bar was also lovely. Would definitely stay here again.

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 4 Star Superior Hotel Espana is located in the heart of Barcelona's historic centre, adjacent to La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Gothic Quarter. Opened in 1859, it was later renovated by the celebrated modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. The hotel has always been considered a little gem of Barcelona modernism. Completely renovated in 2010, it combines modern interior design with the classicism of a nineteenth century building.
