We stayed night at the Hostal La Terassa. The location is good (Raval), close to the Ramblas, metro station, Boqueria market and Plaça Catalunya. The front desk staff were nice and helpful. The room was clean, silent, small but ok, with a small balcony and confortable beds. The bathroom was really small but functional. At the entrance there are some...

The staff was friendly, the terrace outside was nice and the room was clean. We got small room with provisional window looking to the walls or a shaft of some kind. The room was dark and if the window was open, the whole room smelled like toilets. And the noise from the plumbing and canalisation coming from the walls -...

TripAdvisor ratings were spot on with this place. Good location ~ 200 m off Ramblas and quiet, close to Metro station with easy connection to bus termini, modest walk from A1 bus stop from airport . Loved wandering the Ramblas down to wharf area, up to Corte Ingles, close to huge food market & Carrefours. Rooms were small but OK....

Just spent a weekend here, and cannot fault in any way, bearing in mind it is a hostal and not a hotel. Very clean room with private en-suite, towels changed daily, plenty storage, and little balcony. Free wifi, free safety deposit, free aircon, and free use of computer. Staff were extremely helpful when our A2B booking didn't show up and...

This I chose because of price and that I already had spent nights at greater hotels. Friendly staff. But tiny room. The balcony was spaced for one. And you could not regulate the air-con. With the window open I had my worse morning temper after super noisy street. But ok with the window closed. Wi-fi. Cash only.

The location of this small, functional budget hotel cannot be beat. Located 2 minutes walking distance off the Liceu metro stop (on the Ramblas, in the direct middle) makes getting to any part of Barcelona (including going to/from the airport) very convenient. Many points of interest and many neighborhoods are walkable, and I cannot understate how centrally located this hotel...

Stayed for 3 nights and couldn't fault the place. Absolutely spotlessly clean rooms, quite sparse but I personally prefer this- realistically who needs a desk or tv on a city break? Bed really comfy, there's an odd shelf above the bed which we worried about hitting our heads on but it wasn't a problem. Cute little balcony but only used...

I spend a couple of nights on the summer with my girlfriend, the staff was helpful giving us tips of places to eat and how to get around the city. Its located pretty much on the Ramblas very close to everything we wanted to see and do. Definitely would stay here again.

There are few cities where value (EUR65) combines with such a central location - only 2 blocks from Las Ramblas and Liceu metro station; and one from Boqueria Market, in a quiet street. Yes, the rooms are basic (beds, wardrobe and shelf in place of bedside tables) with small balconies (just enough for 2 chairs), but how much time is...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The hostal la Terrassa is located in portion of old town Barcelona where the first settlement of the Raval neighborhood was established. It was built around the Romanic church of Sant Pau del Camp after the fall of the Roman Empire.Less than 5 minutes walking distance, La Terrassa hostal is very near “La Rambla”. This popular promenade was finally completed at the end of the XVIII century and is where in we can find the colorful market known as “la Boqueria” or “Sant Josep” founded in 1836. In the 1800s the upper class of Barcelona gain interest in the Raval area and began to populate the neighborhood’s most important streets. La Terrassa is located in Junta de Comerç street once it first opened it became at the time not only the widest and grandest street, but also the “Champs-Élysées” of Barcelona. The most significant example of an important personality moving to the neighborhood was Count Güell, who commissioned Antoní Guadí to build him a palace in 1885.Nowadays Old Town is an up and coming neighborhood regaining the grandeur of its glory days. It’s the second neighborhood with most character in Barcelona after the Gothic Quarter forming Old Town. Located right in the heart of the city, la Terrassa offers a place to rest “where the action is”. ... more   less
