It is now like a coming home ... The receptionist tells me that room 325 has my name on it, not literally, but it's like a perfect comfort zone after days out in the town and into Barcelona.

To say that nothing changes is to bestow 5* stars on this establishment. Cleanliness and adherence to Covid rules is unarguably good. Everywhere is spotless, including the renowned Buffet area which overflows with all you could possibly desire - Fresh fruit - fruit juices - Teas, Coffees, Yogurts, croissants and other breads and small pain au raisin ... scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, tomatoes and three milks including soya ... not to mention bottled water and friendly staff.

Reception staff are first class and referred me to the Galeon Hotel to do my Locator Form on their computer with the help of a fine gentleman there.

It is a real pleasure to stay at this Hotel annually.

The Hotel does not really change ... and that is a real positive. The Buffet breakfasts stand alone in terms of multiple choices ... Hot offerings include Boiled or scrambled Eggs, Sausages, Bacon and baked beans ... fine tasting salad tomatoes are also available. Fruit Juice and many fruits including Melon and a choice pf Yogurts. Cold meats and cheeses plus many types of bread and small cakes including very fresh Croissants. Soya milk and having bought two new Coffee machines, a very decent Coffee and several Teas yo choose from. All the staff at the Hotel are charming and attentive and the Reception staff cannot do enough to help when needed. The double room, 325, taken because of the cost, is perfect with a very good power-shower and a safety deposit box in the wardrobe (extra 3€ per day.) The room was cleaned spotlessly each day and towels changed each day. The room has a fridge. This Hotel, once again is highly recommended.

1 week stay at end of April. very much enjoyed, close to all amenities , bars an restaurants. Is a very traditional hotel decor wise and in some of the public spaces could do with a wee bit tlc. only other gripe would be lack of electrical sockets in my room. Only one and the fridge was plugged into it so couldnt use it, had to charge my phone from the one located in bathroom! Breakfast good, varied choice, scrambled eggs need salt! staff all excellent and very helpful. I note from previous reviewers they commented on pool area; there are now new sun loungerss and if i am being picky I wish someone would attend to the flower planters and give them some attention, would enhance pool area substantially at very little cost!, all in all great hotel and will return

The positive points of this hotel are the friendliness of the staff and the practical location (unless you are driving, it is impossible to park nearby, you have to go a long way to find only paid spaces).
Otherwise, I don't understand the over-rating of this hotel.

It is already very dated, with uncomfortable and noisy bedding, outdated decoration and furniture, very questionable cleanliness (lots of dust, stains, sheets with holes, etc.), noisy air conditioning.
In fact the hotel in general is very noisy, since you can hear everything through the very thin walls, the area is noisy and the partygoers come home late without worrying about the noise they make. Then in the morning we are treated to the noise of the cleaning ladies, the door being an auditory sieve.
The ordinary breakfast only contains very fatty and sugary industrial foods and you have to queue to get coffee.
Don't count on the very weak WiFi connection either.

Finally, be wary when the telephone reception tells you that it is cheaper to book directly rather than through Booking.
On Booking, there was a double room for €72 indicating single bed. I called to ask for confirmation that it was indeed a bed for two people, I was told yes, but that it was cheaper directly (66€). So I trusted him. But when I arrived, this same person told me a price of €98.88. He told me that on the phone I had asked for a room for 1 person (absurd since I actually called to have him confirm that it was good for 2 people despite the bed being marked as single). After paying, I inform him that I will complain to the manager! So he told me that in the end he was wrong that it was the WE price and reimbursed me €17.14, or the room at €81.74, but still not €72. He probably thought I was going to leave it there.
Despite exchanges of emails with the manager, the establishment did not want to know anything and never recognized the employee's fault (voluntary or not, I will never know, but strange all the same).

I am a regular visitor to Sitges, this year being my 18th visit since 2000. The majority of stays have been at the El Cid or its sister hotel The Galeon.

This review is mostly based on being in room 121.

We had booked for a 16 night stay, and we were allocated room 121. Our initial impressions were not that great as this was by far the smallest room we had stayed in at this hotel. There are no electrical outlets on either side of the bed. The only outlet is in the middle of the facing wall that the TV is plugged into, So this made charging phones and tablets difficult. See Pics

The balcony faced the Sitges roundabout and this bit we liked, although the balcony is very small so could only be used by one at a time.

The Breakfast was good most days. It has the usual selection of breads, meats and pastries, as well as eggs, sausages and bacon. The bacon was British style back bacon, which was nice. For the last 4 or 5 days of our trip they didn’t have sausages though so I guess they ran out.

All the staff in the hotel are great!

The hotel is starting to lose a little bit of what made it charming, I mean the décor and feeling is still charming, but some areas are stating to look a bit worse for wear.

The pool area for one really needs some desperate attention. I would say at least 50% of the loungers were broken and unusable. One day I sat on a lounger and fell straight to the floor as I didn’t see the back legs were split. Luckily a very nice Dutch man cam to the rescue and helped me get up. Some of the parasols were also broken and could not be used. The whole area really needs some new furniture and a bit of TLC.

Would I return? Yes I would. The hotel is still great value and in a great location, but The Galeon offers so much more for not very much more Money. I have already booked an 8 day trip next year for the Galeon.

I Have so many happy memories of previous holidays at the Hotel El Cid,.But this visit , (the first since 2019 Pre Covid,) and i have to say i was really surprised at how old and dated it has started to look, and is now suffering more than a little faded glory.. The rooms are so good , well cleaned , great bathrooms , Huge Beds and mine (with a pool view is perfect), but sorry to say the main public areas are like an old distressed retirement home, I appreciate that the time spent there is not a main focus , BUT with the industry trying hard to recover from the past 2/3 years of covid i hoped there would be some nice improvements , there's so much wasted opportunity here to offer a better experience, but i was informed that any major improvements would mean potential to the group to pay mores taxes, but somewhere in the future they surely MUST do some redecorating and pool improvements just to maintain standards, the pool is also very worn now, come on The Cid , don't loose your returning customers.. i appreciate its rated 1 star but some TLC will go a long way ....

Hotel is in a good location. 5 minutes walk from train station and 5 minutes to the beach.
The hotel is very basic and could do with a complete refurb.
Check in was quick and easy and staff very friendly.
Room was very basic, small fridge, tiny shower room and balcony. No iron or hairdryer in the room.
The hotel has an iron room but this was ‘busy’ for long periods.
Hairdryers are available at reception but they had none all 4 nights as other guests never returned them.
Check out is at 12, unfortunately we slept in and was 20 minutes late. Reception was not happy at all about this. Staff member never even acknowledged us when we came down and wouldn’t look at us. This is totally unprofessional and rude.
There are many other hotels at similar standard and price and we will stay elsewhere in future.

Disappointing return to El Cid having stayed over 25 times, lastly in 2019. Rooms are still very nice & very clean & the housekeeping team should be complimented. Breakfast offerings are a little reduced & there are less tables available & sometimes they are all in use.
Most disappointing aspect is dirty & unmaintained pool area which is bordering on being a health hazard with green algae growing above the waterline. The pool & terrace have not been cleaned at all in the last 8 days & the pool now seems to be saltwater & has gone very cloudy during the week. There are limited sunbeds & the planters are full of dead/dying plants & in the absence of ashtrays, planters are full of cigarette ends. On-site vending machines for water & canned drinks not working & quite a walk to shops that sell chilled drinks.
Overall, a disappointing return to what used to be a loved & well cared for hotel but sadly is no more and perhaps does not offer the value for money it used to.

Having read reviews we thought this would be a decent enough hotel. Unfortunately we were sorely mistaken and stayed less than 24 hours. The room we were given was internal, I cannot even describe “the view”. There were exposed wires in the wall, the only lamp in the room was a tall standing lamp that could only be turned on and off by plugging it in at the wall, could literally brush your teeth whilst sitting on the toilet. But by far the worst and most unbearable element was the heat. The air conditioning was 27.8 degrees when we arrived. We also turned the ceiling fan on which didn’t help at all, in fact the temperature only increased and would not lower below 28 degrees. The shower did not drain and therefore the base filled up and it had to be turned off so didn’t overflow, therefore unable to take a full shower to wash hair etc. just unbearable. Went straight to reception to be told a) minimum temperature a/c could be set to was 27 degrees and there were no other rooms available we could ask again in the morning. We didn’t wait around, spent one very sleepless night in the unbearable heat and moved to another hotel the next morning. Cannot under any circumstances recommend this hotel. Absolutely not as advertised, beyond disappointing. Was not expecting 5 star but expected functioning air conditioning in the middle of summer, cleanliness and a shower that drains, not unreasonable expectations.

Just home after 5 nights at El Cid.

A great location - 5 minute walk from where the Airport bus arrives and same from the train station. An easy walk to the beach in less than 10 minutes.

A really good atmosphere in the hotel and the staff are excellent, so friendly and helpful. There is a very relaxed and easy going feeling.

The pool area was always clean and well maintained.

Great selection at breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, beans plus all the cold meats, cereals, cheeses etc.

Some nice extra touches...lemonade and croissants in the communal area in the afternoon, and a free welcome cava at a sister hotel.

A great stay and will definitely stay here on my next visit.

Thank you for the interest showed in our hotel. The rooms on the ground floor by the pool are considered balcony rooms. We can not confirm any room number but if you send an e-mail to the hotel or the booking department we will note your request and we will do for sure our best to allocate on one of those rooms. Otherwise that is true that we have a higher price for the pool view rooms than for the balcony ones
