I went there in July 2012 with my parents and some friends. We were five in a room for five so that gave more security. The room was very big so as the bathroom. The price is very reasonable thinking that you are in the main road in Madrid. So that means being close to almost everything. Anyway, the room...

The best thing about this place is the location. It's perfectly situated in a major shopping and cultural district. There are plenty of cheap places to eat right outside the door. Another positive was the view from the balcony. You could see right across the city, which was especially amazing at night. There are cons to this hostel, though. The...

We only stayed there for one night but it was enough... The hostel looks dirty and neglected. The rooms were filthy. Our sheets had stains and hairs on them. The door to the bathroom was falling apart. The hostel is located in the eight floor of an old building... The elevator seems really old and makes weird noises. The only...

Couldn't fault this place at all, felt more like a hotel than a hostel and its right in the centre of Madrid. Room was very clean. It also has a computer and Internet which you can use for free which was very useful to find things to do.

We stayed here for a city break last year. We were given a standard double room with the window facing the inside of the property. This was more like a bed and breakfast and it turned out to be a lovely place to stay. Fantastic location. Hostal Granvia was based right next to the main shopping area and a short...

I love hostal Grand Via and recommend it to everyone i know visiting Madrid! Me and my friend (both of us female, 22years old) stayed here in April 2010 for 3 nights. Amazing location on the main shopping/touristic road of Madrid. the room was lovely and spacious and we had our own shower and sink- but had to share the...

This was our first time staying at the Hostal Gran Via 44 and i was pleasantly surprised. The Hostal Gran Via is centrally located and within walking distance to a bulk of the main attractions (i.e. Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol). The metro station is right in front of the building and there is plenty of shopping and restaurants right...

I booked Hostal Gran Via 44 based on the reviews on tripadvisor but having now seen the place, I have no idea how it got so many good reviews. Our room was filthy. The floor was covered in dead bugs, pubic hair and even used tissues and obviously hadn't been vacuumed in a long time. The beds were dusty and...

Overall, this is a fine place to stay if mostly you're just looking for a bed for the night. It's in a great location, very close to several Metro stops. Rooms were clean; we had a sink and shower in our room, and the toilet was down the hall. Staff were friendly and helpful; none we encountered spoke English. The...

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
