I've been staying here now for over 4 years. Twice this year, and it just confirms that Cristina and the rest maintain an excellent standard, fantastic value and brilliant location. Rooms are large for the price. always spotlessly clean (thank you also Margarita!), come with aircon (half have their own split units, the other half operate from a central unit)...

The position of this hostal right in a trendy part of Madrid was a huge drawcard. The room was nice and clean, although ours only had a tiny window opening up inside the building and the bathroom was tiny. The walls were also pretty thin so that you could hear the other guests who thought it was ok to chat...

This is a hostal and would compare to Premier Inns and Travel Lodges in the UK. You pay for the room which is clean, tidy and adequate, with it's own bathroom. The room is cleaned daily and there are clean towels each day. Although there are no tea and coffee facilities in the room, there is an easy to use...

I reviewed this hostal several years ago. I have been revisiting it at least 3-4 times a year since then. The place remains a real winner. The rooms are spotless, the beds comfortable, the staff outstandingly helpful and charming and the location spot on. The bathrooms are not big, but then neither is the price. The wifi has been upgraded...

I stayed here with my wife for a couple of days, it was our fist visit to Madrid and we were looking for something cheap but well located (were were planning on staying most of the time walking and not in the hotel). This was definitely the right place. The hostal is very simple but efficient. Our room wasn't pretty,...

I have been there 3or 4 times I think and it is always a great option. The rooms are comfortable and the beds good enough. The design is a but old but it's only a hostal. We love the location because it's close to chueca. It was winter and the room was warm enough. The staff is really nice so...

The hotel is situated about 100 yards north of the Gran Via - about 5 minutes walk to the Puerta del Sol. From the airport you can take the train (line C1 from terminal 4 to Recoletos station - 10 minutes walk to the hotel) - this costs 2.5 Euros. If you arrive at one of the other terminals there...

This nice hostal is very well located. Near Gran via, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, you can walk to most of the attractions, and of course subway station is very close. There is no need to take a taxi from the airport, you can easily take the bus (EMT Express) from airport to Plaza de Cibeles, and then walk about...

Wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in May to do a walkabout short trip in Madrid. Location wise this was very good for us. 15 minutes walk to the Royal Palace / Plaza de Espana / Temple of Debod in the west and 15 minutes to the Retiro Park in the east. Plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby....

I am not a light sleeper. I am from NYC, I can sleep through nearly anything. But this hostel had the thinest walls I have ever encountered. It was honestly ridiculous, I could hear EVERYTHING that happened in the hostel. By the end of a night full of the sounds of back up toilets being fixed, keys jangling, night watchmen...

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
