Cheap and central position in town but my room was in very bad condition. E.g. the lightswitch at the bath mirror did not work. To have light i had to turn the buld itself. The wood at the door was bloken and only partially repaired and also the repair was made in a very cheap and careless way. No good... More

Hostal Santa Barbara was satisfactory for my stay. I stayed a few nights in a private single and then another night with a friend in a private double. Both rooms had en suite bathrooms which was a major plus. The private single room was very small. Just enough space for the bed and your suitcase. It was pretty clean, and... More

As others have indicated, it is hard to find. The hostal is on the third floor and the rooms are simple and sparse but the price is very good for a major city - don't expect the earth - but if you need somewhere to crash for the night, this is OK. The bar underneath is good for breakfast. My... More

The hostal is - as it was already said - difficult to find as it is in an old historic building which can't bear any ads on its facade. My tip: it's just one door down the road after you pass Santander Cafe. The sign is attached on the wall inside the doorway with openwork iron gate. The hostal is... More

I rented a room here with my best friend in May. We picked a double bed room, because there was nothing else available. When we arrived however, the receptionist told us there was a larger room with 2 single beds available, and we switched to that one free of charge. The room was big, cool enough in the 30 degrees... The hostal is in an excellent location but unfortunately this is the only good thing i can tell about it.The building is old and it is also very noisy. Not because of the traffic or the outside but because of the inside. The door bell would ring any time of the day or night. The reception phone ringing and nobody picking up.You can... We stayed last weekend for the second time in Santa Barbara. The rooms are descent and clean for a good price. The hotel is located in a very cheerfull area, with a great variety of bars and restaurants. All the monuments are within a 15-30 min walk and the metro is literally on the other side of the street. The... More

In August 2013 we stayed here for 3 nights; it was perfect for us. Our room was clean, the staff very cheerful, and it is right across the street from the Metro stop. There are many nearby restaurants and the museums are close enough to walk to. There is a small grocery just a few blocks away that also has... More

Decent hostel - cheap, so I decided I won't complain. The surroundings are nice and it is located very near the centre, which is absolutely fantastic. The staff is friendly and pretty much unintrusive. The beds were okay. The bathroom was tiny and not the best, biggest or cleanest I've seen, but not too bad, either. In other words, for... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.

“It is located in the part of the city where there is a lot of young people. At night restaurants throw garbage to the garbage boxes which are located on the street. It makes qute loud noise and please take it into consideration. Because of this reason I would prefer to take next time rooms which lead to the internal garden of the hotel.”
