Excellent location, near metro station, daily cleaning, very good breakfast. It is a short walk to the Palacio Real and Almudena Cathedral, Plaza del Oriente, Opera, Plaza de Espagna, Gran Via, Plaza Callao, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Major and Mercado S. Miguel. Near the pedestrian area with many shops and terraces. Unfortunately, the pool ( on the roof) was closed...

Very much enjoyed our stay - 3 nights - reception on arrival was incredibly helpful, room was fine and location fabulous. Bathroom was disappointingly tatty, the roof terrace was closed on Saturday night (for a wedding I think) and the roof top pool doesn't open until June.

Dear "badgerparp", Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review and to describe your stay at the Hotel Santo Domingo as "Nice and Enjoyable". Stayed here for three nights in May. Great location right next to Metro and walking distance to Gran Via, Palacio Real, Cathedral, Plaza Mayor and Sol. Plenty restaurants nearby. We paid extra for larger bedroom and it was well worth it. Good breakfast with lots of choice and great rooftop cocktail bar! Staff very friendly and welcoming.

My wife and I spent three nights this week at the Hotel Santo Domingo. We stayed in a basic room. It was small by any standard but it was very well equipped (other than no tea/coffee making facilities) and looked recently refurbished. Very good bathroom. Upon arrival we were offered the choice to upgrade at an extra cost, but as...

the hotel owns a very nice iunterior design. Especialy at the floors above the lobby. The bathroom was clean. But the shower/bathtub was more or less broken. While taking a shower, half of the bathroom was set under water. Furhtermore the wirl pool function was just fake. All in all we enjoyed our stay in Hotel Santo Domingo Madrid. And...

The hotel was close to the metro station and only a few minutes away from the Grand Via. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. I had a horrible view so I kept the curtains closed during my stay. The minibar was reasonable but I'd like to have a coffee machine in the room. I...

Stayed here for 2 nights and spent 3 days exploring Madrid in November 2016. It rained practically the whole time but I have to say what a lovely lively city. Our room smelled worse than a Ashtray. What was even worse is that one of us has Astma and when we tried to explain that for the personal at the hotel, "they could not do anything". So with that experience, this hotel is below 1/5. Location is 5/5 but unfortunately it does not matter in this case.... (we booked this...

Dear Jesper, First of all ,we want to demonstrate our deep worry for the experience described in your comment. The room assigned to your arrival to the Hotel was a non-smoking room. Booked this very quickly at the last minute because of location and rooftop terrace. My bad, because I didn't read the fine print and see the rooftop wouldn't open until June. Had the terrace been open, it would have been a redeeming factor. Without it, all you have, for the economy room, is a very tiny, basic room on a...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
