Do not trust the pictures you see on various websites. We had booked 4 smart economy rooms through one of the websites at Mercure, Madrid. But after reaching the hotel we were shocked...The rooms were of a size of a store room and i am not exaggerating. Even 2 persons cannot pass side by side without knocking the other. Very...

I stayed here in June. The hotel is pretty nondescript from the outside but it is pleasantly laid out on the inside. The hotel is advertised as a 4 star but it does not fit the bill. I stayed on the 4th floor, room 434, which has a window looking out on to the street. Even at this height with...

The hotel does not look bad from the outside or the lobby. After walking many hallways we got to our tiny room. We couldn't even roll the suitcases past the bed because it was so tight. Lots of dust on the walls. The room across from and next to us was permanent rooms. I felt like I was staying in...

The only reason i booked this hotel was a roof swimming pool. Its quite small but does the work of refreshing in +40 in madrid. The first day it was open, but the next morning they closed ot for dsome private even. So all other customers were left outside of the VIP access and could go entertain themself however they...

When travelling to Madrid on business I always stay here. Excellent location for the Metro and only one change from the airport to Plaza de Espana and then a quick walk to the hotel. My requested room is always available and it faces the vertical garden that has a water fall at night. Good swimming pool and sun deck. The...

Very nice hotel. I reserved with booking.com and I'm staring to think hotels give you the less desirable rooms with booking. The hotel is made up of two buildings. Our room was in the back building, we had to go around the hotel to reach the elevators and then around quite a few corners to get to it. It was...

We stayed in June 2013 and found the hotel to be clean with friendly helpful staff. Our room was not very spacious but quite adequate with enough storage space, better quality pillows required though! It was conveniently located and a short walk to Gran Via where you can catch the Hop on bus to sight-see Madrid. We caught the Metro...

The location is good, The rooms are tiny, Constant noise and interruptions, Not recommended if your looking for a good night sleep, but would recommend it if your after a 2 star hotel in the city centre. Bring your earplugs. You will get better value hotels.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
