Stayed in Hostal Victoria II 11 to 13 April and couldn't fault it on value for money, cleanliness and location the downside was no lift but the exercise probably did me good haha. Most of the attractions are walkable from the hotel but if you don't fancy that the Taxi's wait on the edge of the square or you can...

If you are looking for a central location for one or two nights, you can go for Hostal Victoria II. If however, you want some peace, this is not the place for you, as the street outside is busy until into the small hours, and you may not get much peaceful sleep. The hostel is spread over two buildings, so...

Hostal Victoria II was comfortable, but also small as hostels in Europe are; not surprises there. Hot water, warm room, comfortable bed, clean, flat screen TV, free internet, refrigerator for keeping fruit, juice, lunch meat and snacks. We could see the Puerta del Sol Plaza from the window, so yes it's close to everything. When you're that close to a...

I was surprised by how quite this hotsel is given its location. It has a very good AC, Hot and cold water with good pressure , TV, and Free WIFI. It is right in the heart of Madrid. I think it is worth its price. Top Tip: Hostal Victoria 2 is only 15-20 meters away from Victoria 1. Victoria 2...

Hard to find the reception at first but the hostel itself was in a perfect location - Right in the heart of Madrid! Didn't find it difficult to navigate around public transport. I stayed for 3 nights and didn't have a problem. The room was clean and was serviced daily. The gentlemen behind the reception desk didn't speak much English...

For what it cost me I was a little worried after I had looked at some of the reviews on here, on first arriving and walking through the door it looked a little daunting and as you walk up the old spiral staircase your unsure what's going to meet you when you get there(I would say a sign or 2...

Really surprised by the positive reviews beflow - we had a terrible time when we stayed here! We were actually pretty scared and if we have afforded to leave and stay somewhere else immediately we would have. Everything was dirty/broken. There was graffiti on the stairwell and dodgy characters smoking in the lobby and running up and down the stairs...

As I said in another review, I wish the Spanish tourist authorities would define “hostal” because I stayed in three recently with very different standarrds – one was a fire trap with no lift, shared WC, shower with no privacy or maid service, while another was pretty good and this one was the best of all. It is only a...

To check in at Hostal Victoria II (HV2) was somewhat cumbersome for we had to go to Hostal Victoria I (HV1), a few doors away. (We accidentally went to Hostal Pretoria which is in the same building). We found the HV1 staff to be very nice. Once we got the card key we went to the front door of HV2...

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
