In the city centre, close to everything, quiet rooms. Only complaint would be the amount of toilets. One needed to queue. But considering the cost 20€? this was very good place. Note that it is in third floor and there is no elevator.

My husband and I stayed at the Babel Guesthouse a total of three nights. The first night was upon our arrival to Spain, and the last two nights were approximately two weeks later right before we left. The accommodation we received was vastly different during the two stays, but the service was similar on both visits. The first night we...

We stayed in a 3-bed room. Kitchen and bathroom was to share. We did not use the kitchen because there is no space and nothing to use. Any equipment not available. The bathroom was clean and basic. It is close to all sights. The worst was the loud room. We had a room facing the busy San Bernardo street. The...

We've been traveling the world for all of 2014 (Jan-Dec), and this place is average compared to most other places. This place doesn't really look like the pictures. It's not bad, but not as clean or well kept as the pictures make it seem. The check process was clunky. All in all the water was hot, the kitchen was usable,...

The hostel which is what I would call it it's very centric and near a big avenue where you can take the tourbus to see the whole city. The place is very clean including the shower which you have to share. The rooms are small but defenetly confortable to sleep. The snacks in the kitchen are good including the coffee...

Knowing the city very well, I deliberately booked this guesthouse on calle San Bernardo because the area is fine to return to at night for a solo female. However, the place which I was actually staying was 10-15 minutes' walk away in the middle of the red light district. I didn't mind this too much, but the only staff member...

I enjoyed my stay at Babel Guesthouse in Madrid - I was just looking for somewhere conveniently located and inexpensive and this provided both. The room wasn't huge, but was big enough for two. The location was really good, near Plaza de España and only 10-15 minutes walk from the very centre - we spent the whole weekend walking around...

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
