I stayed at the Hotel Alexandra last weekend - Feb 7th to feb 10th. The location is brilliant as it is located just off of Gran Via, right near all the threatres. The entrance to the hotel was clean & average for a european hotel. We had booked a double room but on arrival were given a twin room &...

Just got back from a four night stay at the Hotel Alexandra. I had booked everything through Easyjet Holidays and seeing as, in my opinion I got an amazing bargain (£140 per person) which included the flight and accommodation, I wasnt really expecting anything much from this hotel, however I was surprised. Reception area was very welcoming. I wasnt put...

I stayed for one night only at the Hotel Alexandra and would probably do again, even though it is slightly on the pricey side for a hotel in this category (2 star). Perhaps if I'd booked online, I might have paid less. In the event, I simply turned up at the hotel without having made a reservation in advance and...

I stayed here for 3 nights just off The Grand Via near to 3 Metro stations and bus stop excellent for getting around Madrid. Staff were very helpfull. Room was clean and bed linen and towels changed daily. Economical clean basic accomodation but be prepared for traffic noise, but as Madrid is the city that never sleeps I would think...

The staff were very friendly and helpful. However the carpets are very mucky and old. Also I saw a cockroach in the bathroom - this is disgusting and obviously means that they are not clean enough. Also the walls are paper-thin and you could hear v loud coughing, TV noise from a number of ajoining rooms. Only stay here if...

This is a hotel with one of the highest quality/price ratios I ever met, I think. Rooms are clean and comfortable, it is located practically right in the city centre, very close to metro station and easily reachable by metro from the airport. The staff is friendly and when I was there (third week of september 2003) I could get...

Excellent location, next to Gran Via & Puerta del Sol. Room was large with hardwood floors and very clean, we booked when we got there it was 80E/night which was a steal for Madrid. The staff was very friendly, parking near by at 9E/night. No breakfast included. Would definately stay again.

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
