What can I say-I luved this little gem-its not the quietest but you are in the middle of Madrid-who needs quiet-the staff are fantastic-its no frills but clean,clean-free wifi-tv-just switch to english if needed-restaurants galore right outside-transport a short block away-tourist info right on hand-10 euros to airport-solo traveller-extremely affordable for my own room-small but I loved it-gosh what more...

The hostal is just off the busy Puerto del Sol in Madrid so it's in an ideal location for sightseeing, tapas, and nightlife. Being so central, expect some noise from revellers, urban life and hawkers on the street below (some selling a particularly annoying toy which was everywhere). The room was clean and tidy - only one minor potential issue...

I checked in around 10pm and was seeing a friend for a dinner at 10.30pm. They were early and I was getting ready so I told them to come up to the room – but I get a text message from my friend saying the receptions said no visitors allowed so my friend had to wait in reception for me....

Just back from a a few days stay here and absolutely delighted with the hotel. I got upgraded to a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, with kitchen on the 5th floor with a lovely balcony looking down into the narrow street below. The tourist buses, which I highly recommend using, stop literally a 2 minute walk away but to be honest...

The place is small, but clean and friendly. The location is what you go for. You can walk everywhere from this location and the metro is 50 meters away. I would stay again for sure. The area is busy with shopping, places to eat and drink and wonderful sites to see.

great location in centre of Madrid within walking distance of all/most the highlights of this beautiful city. Lots of tapas bars/restaurants in the surrounding streets and metro station is within two minute walk. Make no mistake this is a basic hotel but has been modernised recently,is kept superbly clean and has an extremely helpful staff.

I booked a twin room for my son and I when we went to watch Real Madrid v Liverpool. Hostal Madrid is superbly located near by to Vodafone Sol Metro and Plaza Mayor. The staff were really helpful and booked us a taxi for the next day to take us to the Airport. The room was very modern with a...

First I would like to say that I did not stay in this hotel. My review is limited only to my experience with staff working at the reception as I was blown away by their positive and helpful attitude even though I was not staying there. The fact that I was not their guest did not matter at all!!! They...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
