We had great room with 2 balconies overlooking the plaza - and the double glazing was effective for noise control. Easy walking to museums & restaurants. It was strange to have a kettle and 2 cups but no coffee or tea supplied, surely a small addition when buying a superior double room.

Excellent location! Can't beat it. Staff was friendly and rooms were very nice. Rooms were modern and must have been remodeled as the lobby and hallways were a bit dated. Our room looked out over the large plaza which was great to view the area but when the doors were shut we could not hear the noise which made it...

NIce hotel in the heart of Madrid (in Puerta del Sol). Friendly and very helpful staff. We enjoyed breakfast at the Europa cafe and being steps away from Puerta del Sol "entertainment" and train station. Room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. I did not give a 5 rating because my husband complained about the length of the bed...

The location in Madrid is superb for visiting the sights. The staff are helpful and informative. We enjoyed the restaurant and sometimes sat at an outdoors table. You are only a few steps away from the Puerta Del Sol or main square. Lots of sights and good restaurants are very close. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. Would definitely...

Rooms are spacious and quiet. Staff is excellent and helpful. Located in Puerta del Sol, the hotel is in an excellent location for walking to places like the Royal Palace, El Corte, Ingles, Gran Via, shops and restaurants.

Title says it all. Rooms with balconies located on the plaza can be noisy if you like to have windows open for fresh air, but when closed, all the noise is blocked. On the other hand, rooms on plaza give you front seat view of performances in plaza - w/out having to put money in a hat!

Lovely Hotel situated at the heart of Madrid, Puerto Del Sol. Get the room with the balcony for amazing views and to watch displays at the square from your room. The room was excellent with modern fittings and the location was perfect, just walk to San Miguel market, Plaza Mayor and to many other attractions nearby. If you are a...

nice clean good location, but European beds and thin interior walls. no outside noise, rooms were modern and small for American standards, beds were firm (love/hate).most sites are walking distance, and the lighting around the hotel make it feel secure

The Hotel Europa is in a great location, within walking distance to many attractions. The hotel itself is extremely clean and the triple room we had was very spacious and nicely decorated. The staff are very pleasant and helpful - all in all a great stay for the third time.

We usually go to Madrid once every 2-3 years and have stayed in different places, we like this one the best. We stayed at the Hotel Europa as it was recommended by Rick Steves in a program we recently watched and were not disappointed. One of his tours stayed there while we were there but they put them on one...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

“Try if you can to get a room not facing the Main Street if you are a light sleeper. The windows were great for keeping out the noise but this is a very busy street and can be packed with people until evening ”
