We were 4 women in this quite tiny apartment which is more suited for 3. Only a few of the photos on booking.com were accurate for the apartment on Calle Piga Dr 15. I asked the person who met me and showed me the place if they had another two-bedroom apartment in the same building and he said no. This...

A really good location to explore Madrid and close to Calle Huerta with lots of bars and restaurants. If you get a room at the front it is noisy. The sound-proofing on the windows does not work. The rooms are less luxurious than in the photos, for example, beds are small and inexpensive. However, the rooms are functional with a...

We stayed at the apartment on the ground floor. The apartment consisted of a large bedroom, sitting area with a desk and a sofa, and a kitchenette (fridge, stove, toaster, plates/utensils/cups etc.) However, there was no microwave nor kettle (the owners should really consider a kettle, drinking tea wasn't quite convenient). There are two things to consider when booking the...

Staying in Lavapies

Neighbourhood Profile
Lavapies
Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighbourhood.

“Ask for a room not on the Main Street of Atocha.”

“We stayed in the room on the ground floor (with an orange sofa), the window opens onto the street and you have to keep it curtained because otherwise people will see everything you are doing inside. I am not sure if they have apartments on the first or second floors, but if they do, I'd ask for those.”
