I spent five nights at Hostal Oporto with a friend. It's a simple and clean hostel located at the first floor of a nice building in a quiet street. It's very well located, 5 minutes from Puerta del Sol and Gran Via and very close to Parque del Buen Retiro e Museo del Prado. The staff was nice and willing,...

While on convention, we stayed in four hotels, this was the second of the four and by far THE WORST! Let's begin with the fact that if you're arriving with suitcases, its two flights of stairs with no elevator. There isn't necessarily someone at reception and they gave us only one key. One day my roommate came sooner and I...

This is a very basic room and would only recommend if you are staying for no more than 3 days. It seemed clean and had a TV. Not what I thought a hostel would be like. Our flight was delayed by an hour which resulted in us arriving quite late and was charged 15 euro by the man covering reception...

I'm a budget traveller and am happy with no-frills as long as its friendly, clean and quiet. This was all of these and more. I had the room opposite the entrance door: double bed (which I requested), spacious, little balcony with full length window doors, decent en-suite, comfortable bed. I was here mainly to rest and the staff respected the...

As some travelers said before, the walls are like non existent and you can hear everything people are doing next door. Run like a maniac from room 114, since it is closet size and I mean it. If you extend your arms, you can touch the side walls in this particular room. The bathroom is the tiniest thing you can...

I stayed in Hostal Oporto for 3 nights in May 2015. The people at the desk were nice. They spoke limited to no English which was fine since HELLO we're in Spain and not England. I consider myself a budget traveller, and as long as the room is clean and there are no creepy crawlies, I am a happy camper....

I stayed 5 nights at the Hostal Oporto with a friend last week, and it was a cozy place. Easy to find and close to the action (Puerto del Sol, Plaza Mayor). The owner doesn't speak a lick of English, but he was the kindest guy ever- he booked a cab for us and gave us directions in our basic...

Just got back from a weekend stay in Madrid (first week of November) and chose to stay at Hostal Oporto. The location is excellent for its proximity to the shops on Gran Via, Atocha train station and to other attractions (eg. Thyssen Museum next door). The Hostal is located on a quiet street with not much passing traffic and the...

We have been to Madrid multiple times. This was our first time here at this accommodation. We loved it and wished we had known about it in the past. Okay, the single room bathroom was small, but the room itself was roomy. Our double room was perfectly fine for two people and we had no issue with the size of...

Loved the location of the small hotel on a lovely old street. My room was spacious and clean. This hotel is in a great location and is very affordable. It's near coffee bars, affordable restaurants, and of course museums. I would most definitely stay at Oporto again.

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighbourhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
