Easily accessible from the Metro which is one minute walk away in the main Sol square. The accomodation was easy to find, located just off the Sol square. Because it is located down a side street it is nice and quiet at night, rooms have blackout curtains so its nice and dark when you want to sleep. The room itself...

Stayed here with my sister on a short city break. Location is perfect. Walking distance to main square of Sol. Easy access to Sol metro directing you to airport. Our room was amazingly spacious. We had a double and single bed. Huge bathroom and kitchen area. Beds were reasonable comfortable. You could hear some noise from the other rooms at...

Visited with my wife and stayed there for 1 night. Location is awesome and it is the heart of Madrid centre. We booked online and paid 50GBP for 1 night for a 2** hostal wich i think is extremely pricey, but i guess you pay for the location. For this money, they could at least give you complimentary breakfast. Room...

This hotel is fine for somewhere to sleep for the weekend, and it really is in a suberb central location. Rooms are clean, ensuites fine, beds comfortable. This is a basic hotel but fine for a couple of nights at the weekend, or even for a week. This is not luxury but it more than deserves it's two star hotel...

Room spotless and quite spacious. Great wifi. Very helpful staff. Easy walk down to Plaza Mayor and Sol to get to RENFE station and get to airport using the Cercanias. Our second visit and would definitely stay again. When you enter the building make sure you get in the lift that stops at the 1st floor (one on right) or...

Recently stayed at Hostal Castilla II. My stay at this facility came with trepidations as this was my 1st Hostel stay. The amenities were spartan, as was expected, with decent shower and bathroom, good air conditioning for hot summer in Spain, and adequate wi-fi. However the bedding in my room was not tolerable. The mattresses were too stiff and small...

I booked this hotel online and spoke with someone there to confirm my stay. They did not honor the price noted on my reservation confirmation and overcharged me by an entire night. You cannot make calls from the room and anyone slightly over average size will find it next to impossible to shower in the tiny shower. We also suspect...

We (my wife, sister and brother in law) stayed here for a long weekend. The location was perfect for us, in the centre of Madrid. Rooms were clean, and all of the basics were covered well. There's a daily cleaner, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, towels, toiletries and 24 hour access. No breakfast, but plenty of choices nearby. Stay here if you...

My wife and I stayed here during our first few days in Spain. We arrived late in the evening and were checking in during and the Madrid and Valencia soccer game for the championship . Despite this the clerk made us feel welcome and took us a cross the street to the room, just as Madrid scored the only goal...

I had booked the hotel through Booking.com, and then I had to cancel my trip. The ad of the Hotel tells on the front page: FREE CANCELLATION, and nearby: BOOK NOW AT THIS GREAT PRICE< AND YOU CAN CANCEL LATER. So I had booked 2 rooms, and when I decided to cancel, it turned out they charge the whole price,...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
