This place is really good for backpackers with a loose budget and also for people that are not going to be all the time in their rooms. The location is unbeatable, you are in the center of the city, so you can walk everywhere. The staff is friendly and the rooms are spacious and clean.

This place was recommended by my cousin and we had a great stay! The hotel is located on the Gran Via, one of the major arteries of Madrid. It is within walking distance to great sites, theaters, and restaurants. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. It is economical, so don't expect a super hotel. It is clean and... More

This hostal is certainly well worth the price and a nice place to stay in Madrid. Its very basic, much like other hostals, but clean and run quite efficiently. The location on the Gran Via in Madrid is very central, right next to the metro and other transportation. There are many many food options in each direction and you are... More

Hostal Felipe V Very central and close to city center. Hop skip and jump away from Granvia metro. Friendly staff. Very basic but clean room. Relatively quiet. Not easy to find from the street (look for No 15). Other hostels in same building. Is located on 4th floor. Offers continental breakfast (very basic). BYO kettle, hairdryer. Recommended.

The Hostal Feleip V is a fab find! It is on the third of a beautiful building along Grande Via. There is a good lift so stairs was not a problem. The staff were helpful when booking and very helpful and friendly when we arrived. There is a person on the hotel desk 24hrs a day and a doorman at... More

This Hostal/Hotel was in a very central location, close to all the sights. It is very clean and has a friendly, helpful staff. There are bus stops across the street. Taxis are readily available and the Metro is just up the street. Across the street, also, is an internet cafe with good food and the best rates for internet that... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
