Booked a ( cancelable ) room in Hostal El Catalán through booking.com in advance. In a couple of weeks got a notification that the hotel is unable to withdraw money from my card (why have they even tried?). Gave them 3 other cards of different banks, one by one - same result, they said they can not get money from...

The location is close to the Gran Via Metro station. There is an elevator, but you must walk down a few steps. My room had a double bed, air conditioning, a good size refrig- orator, private bath and free wi-fi. There is a micro for guests to use. I stayed there for 4 nights and paid 35 Euros per.It is...

The hostel accepts no online bookings and your confirmation is simply verbal. I called 3 times and was repeatedly told my reservation is confirmed verbally, as the woman told me she has no e-mail (I hardly doubt that). I must say, although nervous at first, everything went just perfect. The hostel is 2 floors of a building in the heart...

I stayed here last week and six years ago and I must say it still looks the same. They take well care of it. The rooms are basic but very clean and has a very comfortable and clean bathroom. Try to get a room at the back, because at night the c/ Hortaleza can be a bit loud because of...

I have stayed in this hostal a number of times, as have my family and friends and would recommend it to EVERYONE! It´s 2 blocks from Gran Vía, very close to the metro station Gran Vía (blue and green line), convenient for all the museums and sights. All the rooms have a fridge, airconditioning, TV (6 or 7 channels, not...

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
