Detailed Reviews
The visit was to celebrate a friend's birthday and we arrived on Saturday evening. We chose a Junior Suite which on reflection was not really necessary as we spent most time out of the building. The room was very clean and COVID 19 regulations were followed eg TV Remote Controls were wrapped separately in polythene bags with a Stay Safe sticker keeping them secure and clean. The room was fairly small though even though it was a suite. The location is wonderful with views of the marina. Breakfast at the hotel on Sunday morning was a struggle with only three staff working in the dining room. Normally it would be a buffet however the restrictions mean that is now an assisted buffet. The queue for meals was long and arduous as it seemed everyone had booked for 10am. By the time we sat down to eat the food was cold. Monday was a different story with very few people attending breakfast. It was much smoother to choose what we wanted. There is free parking available in the streets over the weekend however we used the hotel car park at a cost of 19 euros per night. At least we didn't have to worry about the car. The entrance to the car park is via an elevator next to the hotel and the turns are very tight so be careful if you have a large car, it may not suit. The hotel bar was not manned and is located within the dining room.

+1
An ok hotel - it works - it’s incredibly central and clean. Staff were perfectly cordial. But it’s so impersonal. A beautiful old building but no sense of location, culture, history of the city it exists in, nor a relaxing vibe to sit in. So it’s the choice between an antiseptic lobby, or your small room. What a missed opportunity to have a welcoming space as Cartegena is really only known for goi g to the antiquity sites so guests need a proper grown up lounge. There is parking via a small elevator for a fee but do not try anything bigger than a small car. The breakfast is phenomenally big.

This hotel holds a very central position in the old part of Cartagena very near to the waterfront, town hall, amphitheater and museums.. the room was large and spotless.and the staff courteous and efficient. We ate at the resteraunt once and the food was good.
The hotel is in need of some updating as it is showing some wear.
We had one of the superior rooms on the 5th floor which had a large terrace with table and chairs, The access to the terrace was through French doors but, unfortunately the step up was at least 30cm high possibly more. This is not safe and needs to be attended to.
All procedures relating to covid safety were in place but the breakfast presentation was quite rediculous. You pre ordered and at breakfast you received a huge cardboard box with much more than you could eat in it. Everything was in cardboard or plastic so there was lots of waste and recycling. Could they not have put the things on a tray and covered it with cling film?

It was our first time visting Cartagena - Hotel is in a perfect location , rooms with balconies are definitely worth the money ( You can take your breakfast up to your room and have it on the balcony). Room itself was ok, a little bit dated with marks on the walls etc ( It could really do with a little update). Everything else was great, we would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

A really good location, very close to all the tourist attractions and handy for bars, restaurants and shops. Views over the port as well, if you choose a sea view room. We only stayed Room Only for our 4 night stay as we thought 15E per person was expensive for breakfast, when there are plenty of other options nearby for a fraction of the price. Also the restaurant did not look very interesting and inviting anyway.
Our room was comfortable, very clean and equipped with everything we needed. The A/C didn't work but we didn't mention this as it wasn't an issue. The Mini Bar has a few basics but wasn't particularly cold. A bottle of water was provided each day and coffee pods replaced.
The hotel reception area and room decor is rather bland. A few pictures, plants etc would improve the ambience.

On the principle that there is always room for improvement, I never give a hotel 10 out of 10, but in this case we are certainly talking about 9.5 if not 9.9.
There really is very little we could find fault with. The bedroom in our suite, while perfectly adequate, was a little cramped, and the sitting room was made even more so by the pillar sticking up from the middle of the floor, effectively dividing the room into two even smaller spaces. But both were perfectly comfortable (the bed was one of the best we have tried) and more than adequately furnished, while the spectacular views from the huge terrace more than made up for the lack of space inside.
Apart from that, we are reduced to such pettifogging niggles as the teabags were vile, even for foreign tea, which is always vile, and there wasn’t a single UK TV channel. Is this a foretaste of Brexit in earnest?
But everything worked, location was perfect, with everything within easy walking distance and the aforementioned spectacular views over the harbour and the surrounding hills and their genuine castles in Spain.
The staff were charming, friendly and vey helpful throughout our stay, the breakfasts were first class, with the usual NH choice of hot and cold dishes, plus cava to help yourself to, and there were no noise problems.
The manager even treated us to an excellent lunch one day.
We had to leave early on the last morning and they did us a picnic to take away for breakfast.
All in all, I find it hard to praise this hotel too much, and I would recommend it to anyone, although, in a way, I rather hope it will stay unspoiled and unsullied by too many tourists.

The hotel is a great location to see the sights of Cartagena and the surrounding areas . However, parking everywhere is expensive and the best deal we got for parking nearby was €95 for a week so cost can mount up .
We stayed on a B&B basis and the breakfasts are excellent with plenty of fresh fruits , breads, cereals and cooked items - couldn’t fault it .
Our room had some issues however ; although it was a no smoking hotel , there was a very strong smell of smoke on the 3rd floor and although we mentioned it , it didn’t improve . The air conditioning and extraction fan wasn’t working in our room .
The room and the hotel was very clean , however , with cleaning bedding and towels every day . The room had a useful fridge .

I am staying in room 506 and I am very disappointed with the service at this hotel.
I sleep most of the year in hotels and then it disappoints me when I experience that I do not get what I have been promised.
I had booked a superior room in advance. When I checked into the hotel I asked if they had a room available with a sea view. I was told to come back 2 days later and then they would arrange it for me. The room I am sleeping in now is number 506 and it is very cramped and worn. in addition, the bed is too hard with too large pillows. The reason I chose this hotel was because of the location and because I wanted a sea view.
When I showed up at the reception today, I was told that there were no available rooms in my class with a sea view, but that I could upgrade the room by paying extra. This is completely untenable that I have to pay extra when I had already been promised a sea view without paying anything extra.
This hotel is not experienced professionally and I do not recommend it further.

Response from José Luis Porras Domínguez, Dueño at Hotel Cartagena Puerto
Responded 21 Nov 2020
Dear Mr. Stian T, We regret that you have not been happy and that you have been disappointed, as we always try to provide a quality service and meet the expectations of our customers, so we feel disappointed about what you tell us. However, we have to say that we cannot agree with your assessments, since it was you who proceeded to reserve a superior room with a terrace, but not with sea views, if it was what you wanted, there were other types of rooms with these features, which you did not reserve. A customer may be disappointed, but we understand that the property cannot be blamed for not choosing the type of room you really wanted. On the other hand, since it was a long stay, it was not possible to upgrade your room for free, as it was already booked by other clients, but as you know your colleague got a free upgrade. Regarding the problem with the pillows and the bed, we would have tried to help you if you had mentioned it at the reception, since we found out about this problem through your comment on tripadvisor. Thank you so much for your attention and apologize for any inconvenience that it may cause you. José Luis Porras Hotel Manager

The room had a beautiful view of the Port and location is perfect despite being very central, there was no noise in the room, perfectly sound proof.
Perfect room cleaning.

I love the location at the edge of the pedestrial zone, nice view of the harbour, room is of good size, sound isolation from inside hotel if good, not so from outside. Slept in superior room on 6 floor, this will cost you about 100€ night in this type of the season.
If you are looking for stay and expect nothing more then you are in right place. As part of the hotel chain all is preatty much set but there is a lack of personal care (for some, this will be just fine). They advertise high speed internet, well, that is not gona happen, in whole honesty I was offered premium internet speed on hotel account bit that one was as bad as zhe normal one. This is putely management opting for cheespest provider and that become a challenge if you need to zoom or stream.
I give 4* but only just

It is very tight in the underground car park. Entry is gained via the car entering a lift and travelling to basement. Not a lot of room to manoeuvre down there. But.... it's cheap parking and hotel is wonderful
HI scott
First of all apologizes for the time spend it from your answer, i have some problems to read it.
We are very sorry but we don´t accept any kind of pets.
Regards
There is a public underground parking at marina side just across the hotel, about 100 m away
Easy to find and to enter, and plenty of space
Don't recall the charge, but was very reasonable.
Yes there is, underground. Access by a quite small elevator, so check first maximum width and length with the hotel. And there's not much room downstairs either.
