We booked this hotel upon the recommendation of a friend and the pictures on the website. What we learned after booking was tha the sassi area is very restricted for parking- you have to park about a mile away, and there's a three hour window where you can drive down, drop your bags, then drive out again. Where you drop...

My family and I decided to spend one night in Matera and we really wanted to experience the Sassi (original homes built inside the stone in the old part of the city). I loved the presentation of the "Dodici Lune" I saw on line. It feels like an authentic location. I read some reviews and we decided to stay there....

We booked a Triple room in Le Dodici Lune, and were happy with it . You clearly see what each Euro was paid for: apart from being very comfortable, our room was really a piece of very hard work. Just think about local conditions: there is no way to bring ANY goods (food, furniture, instruments or building materials) to the...

Five of us booked for a friends wedding . Amazing staff , great facilities for the cost .They treat you like family and do everything to help . The adjacent restaurant serves amazing food . As the hotel and some of the rooms are up a lot of steps , small suitcases advisable. We all loved it .

We stopped by Matera for one night on our 6 day trip through southern Italy. Wanting the "cave" experience that Matera has become known for, we booked our one night at Le Dodici Lune. We arrived in the city at about 1pm, and having had read other reviews and knowing a little about the city, we knew that parking might...

We stopped for lunch and ended up with an amazing culinary experience with a display of superb antipasti, great aglianico wine. The restaurants conducts fresh pasta workshops outdoors. The atmosphere is profoundly Matera style, high quality and service was world class.

Wonderful accommodation in this town steeped in history. The ancient village of Matera is an absolute highlight of southern Italy and the surrounding walks throughout the township are amazingly beautiful.

We stopped in Matera on our Southern Italy tour and had 2 of the most unforgettable days of our lives. We stayed at Le Dodici Lune, a hotel that has been fashioned out of Paleolithic caves that were inhabited by the residents of Matera (and their animals) from 7000 B.C until the mid-1950s. It was an unworldly but thoroughly fulfilling...

This never happens when you want it to....wandering around lost in a strange place and stumbling upon a restaurant/dining experience that you will remember with pleasure for years! We wandered by this place at an odd hour ... it's a cave restaurant ... tables set with gorgeous linens and a menu and wine list to match. The waiter, John, clearly...

Visited Matera and stayed in Le Dodici Lune for 3 days ( September 2015). It was wonderful! The cave rooms are beautifully lit, clean, comfortable. Maria Theresa and her "mama" were extremely kind, welcoming and informative. The photos you can see online are exactly the way the the rooms look and they are truly beautiful! The air conditioning works very...
