Negative: The rooms are very old and need to be refurbished. Breakfast is poor (no selection and not tasty). Many worms were spotted on the walls of our room. Positive: location is great, rooms are big, staff from the hotel Regina Cristina (part of the same chain of hotels in Capri) very nice and helpful with all our requests.
We stayed at Villa Calypso as part of our honeymoon trip and it was absolutely perfect. This is a little different to a standard hotel, however it feels so authentic, peaceful and like you are really staying in the heart of Capri. The villa is very close to all the main attractions on the Island and the main square. Our room was gorgeous, so spacious with a large and comfortable bed, large bathroom, a large balcony and the most beautiful views of the coast. The room had lovely touches like stocking the local shower gels, cotton buds, cotton pads, free water etc. We enjoyed a glass of wine overlooking the views on our terrace each night. Breakfast was served each morning by our host Raphaela which was a lovely touch, she was so welcoming and kind during our trip. I would highly recommend Villa Calypso as the perfect base to explore Capri. It is also exceptional in terms of value for money.…
We had a lovely stay in Villa Calypso for one night however we did book for a two night stay.... We were advised at around 1pm on the day we were due to arrive at Capri that all ferries had stopped due to the weather and it was impossible to arrive on the island so we had to book a last minute hotel in Sorrento with the hope of getting a ferry straight away in the morning to Capri once the weather had eased. We got told on the phone when advised that we couldn’t stay the first night that he would ask his manager to refund our first nights stay however on arrival the following day we got told we couldn’t have a refund as apparently we could of got an earlier ferry. We had the 16:45pm ferry already pre booked and literally got told by the gentleman from the hotel which rang us that we couldn’t possibly get there now. I have since been told to email the manager of the Regina Cristina hotel which I assume is the parent hotel of Villa Calypso however I have not had any response regarding my refund. We have spoke to people arriving on the ferry the same day and other hotels gave refunds for the nights stay which they couldn’t possibly get too so I’m unsure why Villa Calypso won’t do the same? I don’t see why we should be punished by payment of an extra nights stay because of the weather - we didn’t stay and couldn’t do anything about this so would appreciate someone to please respond to this. Kind Regards, Shane.…
A bit of a walk from the main square but perfect location for site seeing around with the gardens, monastery and eastern tip lookout points. Great rooms that need a little maintenance but that's mostly because it's an old villa. However the amenities are just fine (water, electrical, great bathroom, ect). Would recommend this to anyone staying, especially in the off-season
Villa Calypso brings a sense of rustic charm to your Capri experience. It’s hidden away down a little path all of 5 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the main square; brilliant for a break from the crowds but close enough that you’re back in the swing of Capri in no time. We loved it here for this very reason and the view from our terrace was stunning! The check in point at their sister hotel were friendly and helpful in getting us there and if we’d have wanted to we could have utilised the pool there. There is a sense of the site being a work in progress as the bottom level looks unfinished but our little room was quant, clean and tidy so it did not affect our stay.
If you’re looking for 5 star modern and contemporary hotel / villa with all the mod cons this won’t be for you. If you’re looking for a more authentic rustic experience in a older traditional style villa then this is for you. We loved it. You book in via a local hotel who were very welcoming and your bags get porter service down. At villa calypso you’re welcomed by a lovely Italian lady who speaks little English but shows you around. This added to the more authentic experience. The rooms are large with original features. It does feel and look a bit dated but that’s part of the charm. It reminds me of your grandparents house. It does have wifi, aircon, tea and coffee, free bottles of water, toiletries. The gem here is that its slightly tucked out of the way, quiet and our room had a spectacular view of the gorge and sea. Breakfast is served at a time of your choosing by same said Italian lady on the terrace. It was beautiful. The sun shining, birds chirping and no noise from the bustling town centre. Other reviews have complained about some things that I consider quite charming. It is expensive but everything on Capri in Summer is so it’s all relative. If I could, I would have stayed another night. …
This place was probably destiny. I went with my family to celebrate my round birthday. I not good a room with my name! It turned out that a Hollywood star lived there many years ago and her name was the same as mine- what a coincidence! The view is breathtaking! And breakfast served directly to you room in the morning by a super nice Italian woman is a dream! Yes, yes and once again a huge yes! I have fallen in love with this place. Pure magic.
I would love to give Villa Calypso a great review based on the staff, they were wonderful. Very friendly and welcoming. Rafaela who makes your breakfast is the sweetest woman. They alone get the two stars here. But, the room and grounds were a big disappointment, especially for the price. At 290 Euro/night I expect a lot more. There were broken tiles in the room, the lamps next to the bed were broken, one with a light bulb hanging precariously out of the top. The door to the balcony was very hard to open, scraped along the floor each time. The balcony itself was fine, and a great view, but below our balcony we could see the patio below and there was animal feces all over it. At least four piles we could see. The towels were rough and the outlets all seemed different sizes. Also, we did mention all this to management upon check-out but they did not seem to care or be concerned. We also asked for them to call the bag porters (which you need to do as it's a far walk on cobblestones to the main square) and waited over an hour when they repeatedly said they were on the way. This could have been miscommunication with the porters (a separate company) but just added to our overall dissatisfaction with the experience. When we return to Capri, as we surely will, we won't be staying at Villa Calypso.…
Lovely room with a huge terrace with a spectacular view of the ocean and the lush surroundings. Staff was really nice and service minded and the delicious breakfast was served on the terrace. So beautiful! Only a few minutes to the Piazzetta. We will definitely be back!
We spent a night in Capri at this wonderful B&B. (BTW, if you visit Capri, stay overnight. After about 6 the streets are clear of tourists and the town people come out in hordes for the evening promenade. Children run about and play and Capri becomes a real place. Also, the first tourists don't start flooding in until about 11 am so you quiet streets to meander through and the touristic places are empty.) We had a decent sized room with a four poster bed (very firm and comfortable). Good air conditioning. There was an oversized terrace that had a fantastic view of the sea. There were comfortable lounges on the terrace. The next morning out breakfast was brought in by Imma on a trolley and laid out on the terrace with a fresh linen tablecloth. Very elegant. If there is one niggle I have it is that Villa Calypso is about a 7-minute walk from the Piazzetta most of it uphill on the way back. However, I must add that that all streets in Capri are up and down.…
