I have stayed in this hotel many times and have usually been satisfied with my room. This time we had a room in the annex on the 1th floor. It was dark with just a door to a small closed in terrace and backyard.

Simply put, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. While the rooms were small, they were clean. The English-speaking staff was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Although in downtown Rome, it is tucked away down an alley so it...More
We stayed at Hotel Smeraldo for 3 nights in mid-May. I e-mailed the hotel and asked for the Rick Steves' discount - which was 140 euros, including breakfast. We took a bus from the airport (FCO) to Termini, and then a taxi to the hotel....More
I chose this hotel from Rick Steve's guidebook and then checking the reviews on Trip Advisor. This was our first time in Rome. I had never been there before, did not know where to stay or how to get around. So I did a lot...More
We spent 3 nights in this little hotel. Very convenient to sights but tucked away so it was quiet. Great little restaurant right across the street. Lots of stairs and a tiny elevator but that is normal in Europe. Computer in lobby was helpful for...More

With three of Rome’s most beloved piazzas within a five-minute walk of each other, the Navona/Pantheon/Campo area may be the prettiest and most picturesque area of the city. Join the beautiful throngs hanging out in cafes, boutiques, art galleries, and wine bars, or peek at a neighbourhood museum or monument. If you want nonstop movida, the streets here are busy with chic bicyclists and Vespa
drivers, street vendors, merchants, and locals. There is no rhyme or reason to its winding streets and there's something to see around every corner, so take pleasure in a spontaneous wander.
I always travel solo. I am not usually out past 10 in the evening, but I have felt very safe there. Love the hotel and staff. This year will be my third trip to Rome and third stay at Hotel Smeraldo. Hope that helps!
