I was traveling alone and thus, made a reservation for a "single" room (110 euro/night). I was surprised to find that my room was literally a "single" room. It contained a single bed and a desk. It was about the size of my college dorm room (and maybe even smaller). I was also not thrilled with the towels (think thin...

We just came back from our first visit to Rome and it was more than fantastic, we are just blown away. One of the things that made it was the Hotel Contilia. Just a stones thow from Termini Station and 15 minutes walk from the Colosseum by the shortest route, it has welcoming friendly staff who speak english and didn't...

Excellent hotel, clean, nicely furnished, staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast was great, exactly what you'd expect/want in a continental hotel, 3 cereals, fresh rolls, ham, cheese, pastries (mainly croissants), choice of juice, chilled water and delicious coffee. The location was also great, we found we could walk everywhere, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Our family of seven had three rooms for six nights in July 2005. We found the location excellent with many good restaurants in the area and close to the termini for both train and Metro travel. The staff was very helpful and did all they could to make our visit pleasant. Rooms are spotlesly clean, newly painted and immaculate bathrooms....

Given the other reviews, we were a little concerned with this hotel. Once we got over the culture shock of the neighborhood, and Rome in general, we were extremely pleased with the hotel. The staff was superb and extremely helpful in all of our requests. The room was very clean and the daily service was great. We never had a...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
