A peaceful haven amongst the busy-ness of Rome. Lovely breakfasts in the shade under orange trees before venturing out into the city - only 15 - 20 minutes walk to most of the classical sites. Then enjoy a campari & soda from the bar before re-entry into the buzz for dinner - around the corner is Trattoria da Augusto for...

We stayed in the Hotel Santa Maria for two nights at the end of two weeks in Italy. The Santa Maria really is an oasis, with around 20 rooms facing into lovely courtyards. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was small but comfortable. The breakfast (included in the price) was nothing exceptional but quite adequate. This is an...

We stayed in June for 4 days at the Hotel Santa Maria and we enjoyed it very much. The hotel is an oasis in the very lively district of Trasvestere. After any tiring walk, we were always glad to return back to the beautiful and quiet courtyard. The staff was very friendly and our room (No. 12) was quite comfortable....

We stayed in the Suite Mansarda with our 3 children for 5 nights. The location of the hotel is just great - it is so lovely and quiet and at times you found it hard to believe you were in Rome - which is what we loved. We were absolutely walked off our feet in Rome, but to cross the...

I stayed at the Hotel Santa Maria for 2 nights and had a fantastic time! The staff were so friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and clean, and the grounds were simply beautiful. Breakfast in the courtyard was a perfect way to start the day. The surrounding area is vibrant and busy but it was a joy to return...

We had a very pleasant experience at the Hotel Santa Maria. The hotel is located near the Piazze Santa Maria, where you can find wonderful outdoor dining, a beautiful church, nice shops, and entertainment in the square. The junior suite was a good choice and the accomodations were comfortable with free Internet access. The hotel staff was very helpful and...

I had a great stay at the Hotel Santa Maria. Excellent value for the price point. Cozily tucked within a block so it's quiet at night while the area surrounding stays up late. The service is terrific and very caring. Breakfast is included and very nice. Great courtyard to enjoy breakfast or afternoon reading in. Highly recommend.

If you're trying to find the hotel for the first time and you're arriving by air, I'd recommend that you arrange with the hotel for a airport pickup. It is slightly more expensive than a standard taxi, but there will be someone waiting for you at your departure gate who will take you to this quiet oasis in one of...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
