Stayed at the Villa Della Fonte for two nights on a short visit to Rome. The rooms were small but beds were comfortable and the bathroom again small, but very clean. Breakfast was brought to the room in the mornings, standard Italian breakfast of brioche, caffe latte, a roll and jam, juice, yogurt. There were a couple more choices on...

Villa Della Fonte was the perfect hotel for us. Right off the main square in Trestavere the hotel is charming, perfectly clean, with perfect mattresses, and a wonderful continental breakfast. After long, long days on our feet in the wonderful city of Rome it was comforting to get back to our neighborhood (using the #8 tram or the #23 bus),...

Spent 3 nights in Villa della Fonte and it was super. The location is very good, beside restaurants and bars. There is a great buzz in Trastevere at night. The hotel is very small, rooms are quite small too but very comfortable. Don't expect luxury, it's quite basic but it is a very homely little place. For restaurants, try Trattoria...

GREAT hotel! I absolutely loved Trastevere and will stay in this neighborhood (at this hotel if possible) from now on. If you are a foodie, the restaurants in Trastevere can't be beat. The hotel was only a short walk from the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and Camp di Fiori. Staff was wonderful. Room and bathroom were spacious, clean, and quiet. Very...

What a great little hotel! I stayed here by myself for 4 days in Dec 2008. The single room was tiny, but perfect for me. And the connected bathroom was very nice. On warmer days, they offer breakfast (juice, yogurt, coffee, tea, cornetto) on the lovely terrace. Otherwise, the breakfast is brought to your room. It was a nice start...

I went to Rome with a friend for a few days of sightseeing and shopping, and we stayed four nights at the Villa della Fonte. It was fantastic. The hotel only has five rooms, and the staff is wonderful. It's located near the Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, which is my favorite neighborhood in Rome. It's quaint, quiet, and within...

This was a wonderful find in a stunning part of Rome. Slightly off the beaten path, we felt like welcome guests of the family who run the hotel. Within walking distance of the Vatican, the Pantheon and - at a pinch - the Colosseum, the city was our backyard and Trastavere our new home. The hotel itself is tucked away...

I can only heatily endorse the overwhelmingly positive reviews on this site: it is hard to imagine how they could do things better here, and for a very reasonable price. Service is very friendly but always unobstrusive. The rooms are just what you need in a city centre hotel after a hot day's sightseeing: simple, clean, airy, fresh, with picturesque...

This is a gem of a hotel. It's perfectly situated in a lively neighborhood, but it is surprisingly quiet at the same time. The roof-top terrace for breakfast was a nice start to each day. The room was very clean, had a nice bathroom, and satellite TV. It was a great place to rest after longs days of tourism. It's...

Very impressed by this hotel located just off the a beautiful square, which comes alive at night with restuarants and people milling around the fountain - just as imagine Rome to be! Lovely staff who are extremely helpful - despite my poor Italian! The breakfast is also v good - served on the terrace part of which looks out to...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.

“We stayed during New Year's so expected a little noise but other than the night before New Years, when there were some passing revellers, it was peaceful. And there was no traffic noise. If you want total peace and quiet you could request one of the rooms that doesn't face on to the street.”
