Small, elegant Villa San Pio on the Aventine hill is so charming and comfortable that it's hard to leave the gates and venture on a walk to the nearby Forum and Colosseum! The staff is kind, helpful, and unobtrusive, the breakfast plentiful and delicious, and wonder of wonders, there was even a whirlpool tub in our bathroom! Heaven after a...

Wonderful secluded hide-away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas. The rooms are elegant, with a relaxing outdoor sitting/dining area between the different buildings. Baths are adequate in size. The price is comparable to similar hotels in Greece and Italy. The morning breakfast is good, the evening restaurant meals excellent but pricey. Other restaurants can be found...

Some say there's no place quiet in Rome, but this hotel must be an exception. There is a beautiful quiet internal courtyard for dining, and the breakfast is outstanding. It is a bit of a hike (maybe 3/4 mile) to the subway stations and nearest restaurants, though from these stations you could get wherever you want, and it's actually not...

My partner and I stayed here 2 weeks ago and were totally impressed. I would have loved to stay for much longer than our 3 days allowed. We booked online at Venere.com and I reserved the standard, "cheap" room. I also emailed the hotel to ask if they had any rooms with terrace or views and was informed that these...

Our family of four - 2 adults and 2 teenagers (12 & 14) were lucky enough to have stayed in this hotel a few weeks ago. We chose it by researching this website and everything we had read about it was true. It is located on the small hill of Aventino in an upscale residential area that is very quiet...

My husband, 17 year old daughter and I stayed here for 4 days before going on a cruise. I had stayed in Rome before in a much busier location, and really wanted a quieter place away from the congestion of the city. The Villa San Pio was perfect. I can only add to what others have said: beautiful neighborhood, wonderful...

We found the San Pio a very pleasant hotel. The room, while quite small, was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was served in a conservatory annexed to the hotel with a view over an small, but attractive courtyard garden. Breakfast food was simple, but excellent and it was great to be able to get a good Cappuccino brought to your table....

Booking here was tricky. Two days were done with hotels.com and two days were with rome.by. Rome.by only had two days, and hotels.com prices were almost double the rate. The hotel gave us a small room because they said that our rate was cheap with rome.by so ignored the $333.34 a night with hotels.com on the other two days. Beware...

My boyfriend and I spent five lovely days in Villa San Pio. This romantic hotel is located in a quiet part of Rome but it is only a short walk to Colosseum, Foro Romano, Giannicolo and other historic attractions. The room we were given was large, clean, nicely decorated and had a huge terrace, where we often enjoyed a evening...

What a fabulous small hotel in the middle of Rome only 5 minutes from the Circus Maximus (where Genesis were playing a free concert) and 10 minutes walk from the Colosseum. We travelled with our 4 children si had 2 triple rooms which were very spacious and comfortable and a complete sanctuary from the soaring Roman heat. The staff could...

Staying in Aventine

Neighbourhood Profile
Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighbourhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
