Stayed at Arco del Lauro for 4 great nights & found everything perfect. Daniella's warm welcome set the scene for a truly comfortable stay in a Roman "home from home". Situated in lively Trastevere & perfectly placed for trams & buses to the tourist spots, we enjoyed peace & tranquility when we needed to rest but were right in amongst...

This is a gem of a place in Trastevere (in the quieter part of this lively quarter east of Viale Trastevere). Lorenza has used her obvious intelligence to create a real home from home. Lovely clean, quiet rooms, simple but more than adequate shower/bathroom, internet computer in the lobby plus tea and coffee making facilities (really rare in Italy). In...

Spent 2 nights at Arco Del Lauro and had a great time. The location is excellent- so convenient to all the restaurants in Trastevere and within walking distance to most of the main sites in Rome. Lorenza the owner is very friendly and helpful- the taxis arranged for the airport were spot on (40 Euro). The room we had was...

This B&B was the perfect choice for our family of four traveling with a friend. The girls (12 and 14) loved the Trastevere neighborhood with its narrow cobblestone streets, shops, and trattorias. We loved it too. Arco del Lauro is so close to the Tiber River -- we often crossed the bridge through Isola Tiberina to eat or wander through...

We stayed at Arco del Lauro for 9 nights and found it to be the perfect choice. It was affordable, clean and extremely well located. We were able to walk absolutely everywhere from the forum to the vatican to the appain way and even the spanish steps. The rooms are plain but comfortable and the management is friendly and very...

We can only support all of the other good reviews of this place: - clean rooms - friendly staff (Daniela, Lorenza was out of town) - quiet - newly refurbished bathroom - etc. The weather during our stay was quite cold, but the lobby and room were well heated and we were always comfortable. The complementary cookies and the home...

We stayed for 5 days in May 2008, and our experience was really great. Lorenza and Daniela are very nice, the place is hidden but easy to find. Close to Vaticano (go walking) and near to incredible restaurants, with delicious food and good prices. Absolutely recommended. Enjoy the neighborhood walking around. In fact, you should walk over entire Rome, the...

I was looking for a reasonable hotel in Rome and found a number of NY Times readers suggested Arco del Lauro. Unlike many B&B's in this price range, Arco del Lauro had new fixtures, a nice combination of modern furnishings (beds, bedding, tvs) with traditional touches (armoires). They also have two computers available for use, no charge. Both Francesca and...

We've recently returned from a short break in this fabulous B&B in Rome. Our visit didn't start too auspiciously because the building was covered with scaffolding and as we were early there was no one to meet us. This was soon resolved by the owner Lorenza who kindly upgraded us for this first night. (She couldn't do anything about the...

We have wanted to visit Rome for years to see all the amazing ancient historic and religious sights all of which exceeded our expectations ! What we did not anticipate is that we would actually begin to feel like we were "living" there - the reasons for that were the proximity to the river, local churches, the cabs, and buses,...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
