We just had to walk to reach the hotel from Roma termini, indeed close-by . Hotel is nice and quaint however my initial experience with the hotel receptionist was quite shocking !. The lady could barely handle pressure of handling 3 client who are peacefully standing in a queue to collect their room keys.they had serious issues with room check-in...

Good location, could walk to most attractions, front desk staff were very helpful although we had to get over a bit of a language barrier as we only speak english and some staff only had broken english if any. Having said this we specified english speaking hotels when booking the trip. Our room was over a restaurant who cleaned up...

Rome was our last destination in the Europe tour ( France - Switzerland - Italy). We had three rooms booked months in advance at San Marco. However, on arrival, we were told there was NO third room available! We had to literally argue our way through to get the required no of rooms. upon check in we realized that the...

After flying all the way from Australia via Dubai,we arrived late afternoon in Rome to discover that the room we had payed for a MONTH ($856.00 A Dollars) before and which had been confirmed was not available..HUH!..They then panned us off to another hotel the Milani which after travelling around the world I would rate as the biggest dump ever.My...

Can't really comment on the physical qualities of the San Marco, as when we arrived, a young lady at reception with poor English, managed to get the message through that they had no room for us, [despite a booking made months prior], and we were shunted off to another Hotel -- as has happened to others. Just before borading the...

This hotel is okay for a base and is very centrally located a short walk from Termini Train Terminal. It is quite a noisy area but we didn't have too much touble sleeping. The breakfast selection was average.

We found Hotel San Marco to be a great, value hotel. The staff was informative and accomodating. The location was extremely convenient and we were able to walk to virtually all of the sights in Rome. This small hotel was exactly what I expected based on their website, online reviews and room rates. I would definately recommend and stay again...

Pros: - location - in the city centre, only few steps from Castro Pretorio metro station; - free Wi-Fi. Cons: - very small room with small windows. We were unlucky to have a patio view room. The patio is like a well and there is a feeling that no daylight comes inside the room. - limited breakfast (not enough before...

Some reviews claim you get what you pay for well beware because with this hotel that's not always the case. We paid to stay here and, like a few previous reviews, on arrival we were told to move to a different hotel. After an initial greeting we were ignored for some time by several hotel staff before we were given...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
