We were sent to this hotel by the cocierge at Hotel Santa Maria, also in the Trastevere area. The Hotel Santa Maria let us park our car there since it is quite dificult to find a spot on the street. We were pleasantly surprised with Residenza Santa Maria. Great location right in the heart of Trastevere, yet I did not...

This quaint hotel is the only place to stay in Rome. Spacious clean rooms (good showers!) , great service (Giovanna is so helpful and one of the nicest people ever!!), and the price was fair for the best location in Trastevere. Located just off the main strips and right down the street from one of the best cafes in Rome,...

We had a wonderful stay at the Residenza Santa Maria - the hotel is in a fantastic location, the room was a good size with comfortable beds, sound proofing, air conditioning and an excellent shower, etc, the hotel also has two public rooms. There is an excellent restaurant next door and the hotel is walking distance from many of Rome's...

We stayed several nights at the Residenza Santa Maria. We used TripAdvisor ratings as our reason for booking our stay here. They did not disappoint. There was a small issue with our reservation; however, the staff went WAY Beyond any expectations to right the miscommunication and really made sure that we were taken care of. I would recommend this hotel...

This small hotel is located in a very lively and authentic part of ancient Rome, situated in Trastevere, accross the Tiber but near enough to all the beatifull sights. There is a tramway at a few minutes walk but we made splendid walks just from this hotel. Nice and clean room, friendly staff and a good breakfast, although we would...

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. 2 adults and 2 children in a family room with breakfast included. The staff was very helpful and the room was very clean. It is located in a great area (Trastevere) and would happily stay there again.

We stayed three nights after a week of cycling in the Puglia region of Italy. The location on a quiet street is perfect for walking to Rome's major attractions and also close to public transportation; the staff is very helpful and warm; the breakfast is substantial and tasty. Our room was large, attractive and comfortable; the bathroom was large, modern,...

Nice spacy rooms, friendly and helpful staff, perfect location in the center of Trastevere (definitely the nicest aeria to live in Rome), in smaller quiet street. Breakfast good by italian standards. In general, nothing to complain about, and we can gladly recommend this hotel.

After the first of our three nights at the Residenza Santa Maria, nestled in the amazing streets of Trastevere, we started to feel like it was our new vacation home in Rome. The staff was helpful and friendly, and the location was close enough, but not too close, to some of the most popular sites, like the Pantheon. There wasn't...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Residenza Santa Maria, is a small exclusive Hotel de charme, located I the heart of Rome, just a stone's from the magnificent and picturesque square of Santa Maria in Trastevere. This boutique Hotel is the result of the skilful restoration of a 17th century building. The whole house is dominated by brick arches, wooden ceilings, artistic hand painted frescos and wall decorations which give to the Residenza Santa Maria an atmosphere of refined elegance. With only 6 rooms, the Residenza Santa Maria is somewhat smaller than its namesake which allows for even greater atmosphere, notwithstanding the fact that having only recently opened it is also equipped with high tech environment. The large and quite, no smoking, rooms, some of which family rooms, are fully equipped with private bathroom with tub and shower, A/C, telephone, mini-bar, safe, satellite flat panel TVs, free internet connection, boiler for tea/coffee and other amenities. In the breakfast room, once a Roman cistern of the II cen. BC, decorated by original ancient Roman artifacts found on site during restoration of the building, guests can enjoy a rich and delicious buffet breakfast, (scramble or boiled eggs, ham, cheese, salami, fresh bread, assortment of biscuits, cakes, fresh fruits, yogurt, fresh croissants, selection of fruit juices etc.). Thanks to great location, from the Residenza Santa Maria, guests can easily reach the main tourist sites like Campo de' Fiori, Navona Square, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi's fountain, the Roman Forum and Coliseum with just a relaxing stroll through a maze of fascinating medieval streets. The Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Square are a few minutes away. Furthermore Trastevere, apart from the beauty of its mediaeval narrow little streets, is filled with typical restaurants, markets, pubs and cafes. The Residenza Santa Maria also offers services like transfer to and from the airport, private guided tours, laundry service, shiatsu massage, beauty centre, baby sitting service and car and scooter hire, as well as offering free use of bikes to its personal guests. ... more   less
