The location of the hotel is its major plus point and I have to say the staff were all very good, especially Claudia whom we dealt with more than once. On the down side there is a problem with noise and sleeping. Sound-proofing between rooms isn't brilliant and the main doors to the rooms are opened with key-cards that you... More

The room was clean but small. The doors slam loudly. The air conditioning stopped at 23 and started again at 06, this was a nuisance not for the heat (it was a rainy night) but for the sudden noise at 06. The location is very good right in the middle of the town.

This quirky little hotel is actually linked to the modern 4* Urban Hotel Design. The reception (check-in, service, payment etc.) is in the Urban Hotel Design, then you walk out their back exit, across a narrow backstreet and use a card-entry to access the James Joyce hotel. There are no common rooms or reception, just access to the bedrooms, except... More

We stayed here for 3 nights prior to a cruise. We loved that this hotel was right next to everything yet tucked away down an alley with not much traffic. Check in across the alley in the Urban Hotel was quick and easy. The room was just basic. We opened a window to get some cool fresh air but had... More

The hotel has a good price, good breakfast, friendly staff. Well located but the rooms are very noise. We are luck to have a room for three persons, so it was a " bigger" room, and was an inside windows. But the noise comes from the upper room, which we could hear any movement. It was a pity because makes... More

As others have noted, the JJ is part of the (seemingly chicer and more modern) Hotel Urban Design, across the street. High marks for the following: Location - you can step right out into the Trieste street party that seems to go on all night; Breakfast - good solid breakfast with lots of options; Staff - friendly, helpful and responsive,... This hotel is a great value tucked away in a very quiet side street. The rooms are a little on the small side but that doesn't bother me. The rooms are very clean and the staff are helpful. The buffet breakfast is more than adequate. It is only a ten minute walk from the train station and my wife and... More

The rooms were small, which is typical for an older European hotel, but the worse thing was the noise. You either had an inner room view that faced right into a wall of windows (not good if you are claustrophobic), or the room we had, which also faced windows, but these were across the walking street. The trouble was, at... More

This hotel is operated by the Urban Design hotel which is just across the alley from the door of the James Joyce. It is on a small alley that winds back in an attractive way for a street just off the Piazza d'Unida de Italia (I know I have misspelled that a bit). So the location is about as central... More

If you want a clean, tidy hotel in the center of Trieste, but you don't care about luxury? Then this is your hotel. The price was an excellent value and I was not one bit disappointed. I was on the 2nd floor and you can hear the 'party' outside- but I love it and cracked my window open to hear... More
