Really lovely hotel with all the bells and whistles in the public areas. Decor is generally stunning. The external areas are also well kept and clean. The room was just a tiny bit tired but nothing to complain about. The breakfast was generally very good but the same menu all week for evening meal seemed strange and a little bit boring. Overall though, really good hotel.
Well located hotel with good facilities and friendly staff. Our room on the third floor had a wonderful view over the the lake and gardens was spacious and the air con great. Breakfast was good but fresh fruit was slow to be replenished and the orange juice machine was a problem. Dinners were not up to standard for the hotels rating but expensive and limited in choice. Linked to Dino Hotel by useful passageway which avoided walk down busy road.
This was our first trip to Lake Maggiore but won’t be the last! The hotel is perfect for families and is simply stunning in terms of decor, cleanliness, setting and friendliness of its staff. There are a number of hotels in the chain, the closest of which is the Grand Dino which is much larger and not as intimate as the Simplon, but equally on par for lavishness and you can share all the facilities. Baveno and Stressa are an ideal setting for a visit to Lake Maggiore, it’s islands just off the shore are serviced by a variety of boats. All in all we found the Simplon the perfect Hotel for our family of four to relax and unwind after a busy day of sightseeing!
We stayed at the Hotel Simplon as part of a tour we were on. The staff upon arrival were so nice and welcoming. Our room was very comfortable, clean and had an amazing view of the lake. The buffet breakfast each morning was delicious and the wait staff was very nice and provided great service.
Beautiful pool area, attractive public rooms and a lovely lake view from some of the bedrooms. Reception staff were friendly. However the bedrooms & bathrooms could do with some improvements. I had requested a double room however I was given a twin which was disappointing, and a couple of the floorboards seemed to be falling in in places so I had to take care not to step on those areas. The mattress was hard and the duvets were too thick for summer - a lighter tog would be much better. Nice little balcony and good wardrobe space. Aircon worked well. Curtains don’t close properly though and some light got through the shutters. No iron & ironing board (disappointing) and didn’t appear to be any room service on offer. Strange locked cupboard next to the wardrobe - no idea what was in there as wouldn’t open! The shower pressure was great however bathroom configuration was poor - shower head in the middle of the bath not at the end and even with the glass screen pulled out the loo seat gets wet! It would be better if they removed the bidet and moved the loo away from the bath. No conditioner or body lotion was provided and no flannel (face cloth). Breakfast was ok but not the best - I would have liked more healthy options. Nice to eat on the terrace though, enjoying the view of the pool area. Check out was quite early at 11am (many hotels have it at 12pm these days) and the hotel weren’t able to be flexible at all. Would be good if the hotel had some mosquito zapping machines. Lovely setting and great potential - some refinements needed.…
Stayed there two nights with my wife and two teenagers. We had a two floor room at the top floor. Amazing view to the lake and garden and a nice little balcony. The room and the hotel were clean and stylish. Very friendly staff (special thanks to Elena in reception). Breakfast in a terrace was amazing, especially the hotel-made croissants! Lunch in pool bar was ok. In the beginning of July hotel was fully booked but still quiet - we were almost alone everywhere. Good facilities in sister hotel Dino were also available. Especially the 25 m pool was great for swimmer.
Stayed here for a week with a tour group. Very nice old fashioned hotel. All staff dealt with were courteous and helpful. I paid about £260 extra to get a lake view room. The view was stunning. The other option would have been a room with a view over s busy road and probably no balcony. Room facilities were average for this level of hotel but I feel that thick winter duvets were not the best bedding when the temp was in the 30s. Lovely pool and gardens. Hotel is badly let down by the food. No fresh fruit available at breakfast, only tinned. Cook offering not very appetising. The dinners were dreadful. The menu was repetitive, the food never hot often cold, some of it was frankly inedible and much went back. Portion sizes were small (maybe no bad thing given the food). Some of our group, me included went to eat elsewhere. Pizzeria over the road was good. Cold drinks are expensive, about 50% over what you would pay elsewhere and €5 for a can of Fanta is having a laugh.…
Excellent 4 star hotel only let down by the evening meal which was 3 star at best. If you can up-grade to a pool view do so, my room was on the busy road side. Excellent staff in all areas. Only a short bus or boat ride from Stresa where more is going on.
The Simplon Hotel is a grand beauty with some incredible touches like the art filled tunnel to its sister hotel. It was too cold to swim in the expansive outdoor pool in May but just looking at it and the manicured grounds that surrounded it were enough for us. Our room had old world charm and breakfast was white linen lovely. There are less expensive hotels in Baveno but if you can score a room overlooking Lake Maggiore you will be happy indeed. Have an Aperol Spritz on the outdoor terrace and enjoy the scene and fresh air of this northern Italy town.
We hd an amazing stay at Hotel Simplon. We got upgraded rooms free of charge and got to enjoye a balcony and bigger rooms. Incredibly beautiful and all in all a wonderful hotel. Fantastic breakfast and a simply stunning pool area and garden. Will definitely come again.
