Great hotel, perfect location in the centre of town, not far from the harbour and main carpark, adorable multilingual staff, excellent food, we had the chef's set menu every evening in the gazebo outside. Superb value for money! Can warmly recommend it.

Upon arrival, we were told that we had to stay at the nearby Hotel Astoria for our first night and then move our belongings back to Hotel Moderno for our second night. We were not happy with this arrangement. However, I must say that both hotels were very nice. Hotel Astoria had a beautiful pool and Hotel Moderno picked us...

Hotel Moderno is a real gem . . . relatively inexpensive for such a famous and popular tourist destination. The rooms are spacious. The staff is friendly and helpful! The breakfast has great variety, and one can "brew" ones' own cappuccino, which is a treat, especially if one wants a second cup before facing another challenging "tourist day." Thank you...

Understated elegance just steps from Lake Maggiore. I stayed in Room 404, a very spacious room with a large private balcony with a partial view of the lake, a historic church bell tower, mountains, and Stresa rooftops. Moderno is less expensive than other hotels in the area but rooms are large and kept immaculately clean. Simple but very tasteful furnishings....

This hotel is situated just behind the church which is standing in front of the Lago Maggiore. In a small street (you cannot access with the car), close to restaurants, shops and the lake. For the rooms giving on the street in front of the hotel, I suggest you sleep with closed windows (they are double glazing) as the little...

Room was very large, simply furnished but a bright room and sparkling clean, with a large well fitted marble bathroom. We had a small balcony overlooking the town square. No noise from this square as it was mostly pedestrian. I would have liked chairs in the bedroom and a bigger tv as I like to keep up with the news....

This hotel, ideally located in a pedestian street in the heart of Stresa, is located just 3 minutes walk from the lake shore and the ferry pier. The station is a 10 minute walk away and there are shops, restaurants and icecream parlours in the immediate vicinity of the hotel The rooms were spacious and very clean, and quiet due...

Just arrived from hotel Moderno in Stresa. The staff were rather unfriendly, sour every morning and evening, and rather unhelpfull. Breakfast was the worse I´ve ever got in Italy. Bread was baked several days ago and selection was thin pieces of cheese, ham and jam. The rooms were nice and clean, and I´ve got a balcony out to the garden....

My boyfriend and I stayed at Moderno when we stopped in Stresa to visit Isola Bella and Isola Madre. Although the location is great, the rooms are somewhat worn and look like they're stuck in the late '70s. The floors are linoleum and our balcony was tiny. The staff, however, was quite friendly and helpful. For 80 Euros, it was...

We went on to Bregenz,Austria, and to Switzerland, where we passed the Alps via San Bernadino tunnel. We crossed the Italian border at Lake Maggiore and after about 60 kilometres we reached the town of...
