We started our trip here and ended here. It was a lovely welcome and a touching send-off. Firstly, anything in Venice is hard to find, so allow plenty of time to reach your destinations, download an offline map, and use GPS. This B&B is centrally-located, easy to walk the water transit stations (Vaporetta, airport ferry, etc), but still so quiet...

We were greeted by the owner, Emanuelo Patella when we arrived. The B&B is behind a locked gate and down a pleasant walkway hidden away about 10 minutes from the Accademia Bridge. We took care of payment, and Emanuelo showed us to our room on the middle floor. The room was simply decorated with a very comfortable bed, a wardrobe,...

Nello, the host is very hospitable. We had full use of the kitchen to make tea, coffee, or keep things cold in the fridge. The breakfast was very generous. The room was quiet and the hotel is behind a locked door. Let Nello know what time you are arriving so he can meet you. The B&B is very close to...

We stayed at Casa di Sara June 26 and 27th 2015. Its hard to find but in an OK location. Our top floor room was extremely small. One bed pushed up against the wall on two sides, no side tables, one small side chair, no hook or towel bar anywhere. The bathroom sink is up a 15" or so platform...

Our experience at Casa di Sara was a good one, the staff were friendly and the property was clean and charming. Breakfast was simple but got us on our way and the location was great for exploring Venice, walking distance from all the main sights and convenient to the train and bus stations. We didn't have any trouble finding the...

We had a very charming room at the Casa di Sara in Venice. It was a 5 minute walk from the vaporetto and was in a part of Venice filled with Venetians instead of tourists. We were met by the entrance to the hotel which was good because we do not have a cell phone that works in Italy. The...

Very difficult to find the street, because they advertise it as Dorsoduro St, and the street is not called Dorsoduro but Fondamenta Eremite/Borgo; and if you do not get in time, nobody is there to give you the keys. So, have a telephone available to call them (telephone number is on the door). You will also need your smartphone flashlight...

Management personnel only seen for check in, never seen again.. The women who fixed breakfast was there only for that job. No personell on site. Breakfast was at one inconvenient time only, no exceptions. Roof terrace not available as advertised. No place to sit in room and no common area with roof terrace closed. Needed an extra pillow, which was...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
