Our stay was booked very last minute, so no research on the hotel. However, we had a lovely 3 night stay. Our room was on on the 3rd floor and was a standard twin, but there was plenty of room for my husband and myself. The bathroom was quite large and modern and like the rest of the room, was...

We chose this hotel as part of a booking through "European Vacations", aka "Tripmasters". We did our homework here on TA in trying to locate a suitable hotel at each of our 4 destinations, as I am sure many do. The hotel is quite dated and the rooms (beds) need a major renovation to keep up with the times. I...

Hotel dell opera in Venice in Venice is terrible. They tried to hustle us for $50 more per night and over-charged us for the room bar and the restaurants that they recommended were bad and over-priced. We were celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary and not only did they not upgrade us but they put us in shabby, small room 102...

We had a great time at this hotel which we booked as part of an Easyjet package. Our room was on the the top floor accessable by lift and stairs and overlooked a small canal. It was surprisingly large with an immaculate ensuite. The beds were comfortable and the room spotless. A further flight of stairs took us to the...

After reading many good review about this hotel ,we booked 2 nights in. I can tell this; we weren't disappointed at all. as mater of fact the hotel has exceeded our expectation. We do understand however, the space in Venice is limited so we expected a small room with confined bathroom. To our surprise, the room was so spacious so...

Well placed for easy access to St Mark's Square , just 10 minutes walk away and even closer to the Alalaguna Orange line at the Giglio pier for trips to and from the airport. The hotel overlooks a small canal. Our room (205) was large and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was standard Continental fare. There is a very good...

The two kids and I arrived on a Thursday evening in February, so it wasn't busy. The receptionists were friendly during our stay and helpful. We got room 104, which has a small balcony over the canal, above the main entrance, which allowed us some gondola entertainment! The room was grand in appearance and basically furnished. Matresses were firm, but...

A small, clean hotel in a central location ideal for San Marco, Rialto and Teatro la Fenice whilst still in a quiet and tucked away location. (Possibly in part due to closure of one of the bridges forcing people to take a route around the hotel rather than directly past it). The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable,...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
