We luckily booked the junior suite room for our 2 night stay. The room was massive and just what we needed after getting off a cruise ship for 11 nights. Our room also had a small balcony overlooking the canal. The breakfast room is a bit tiny but most of the restaurants in Venice having seating very close to either...

I am very disgruntled with this hotel from start to finish. I booked two rooms - many many months ago. When we arrived, they explained that someone was sick and could not move out of their room and would we do them a 'favour' by taking a room nearby - OUTSIDE of the hotel. We complained about this but felt...

The location of the hotel is a short - <10 min walk to the Doge and Bell Tower. It's also very close to the S Zaccaria water taxi station, which goes to the Marco Polo airport. One does not need to cross a single bridge to get to the airport from the hotel, making it a plus if you have...

We just finished our stay in Venice and we absolutely would come back here. Staff is very friendly, even if we have a difficult time communicating. My Italian is much worse that their English but at times it was almost comical. The room (#103) was very large and spacious. The bathroom, no bath, shower only, was huge!! The soaps and...

Great location and moderate price. Updated hotel surrounded by beautiful historic Venice. Nice rooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff, and good breakfast. Close enough to all the attractions, but felt far enough away to not be overwhelmed with the St Mark's crowd. Close to water taxi drop off and near great restaurants.

Dear Guest, Greetings from Venice. Thank you so much for your visit and for writing this lovely review of Ai due Principi. Fortunately our location is fabulous, few steps far from St. Mark's square but definitely out of the tourists beaten track. In effect it is a magical area: good and authentic restaurants, a romantic and quiet atmosphere surround Ai...

Extremely rude and unprofessional staff. The hotel roughly deserves 2 stars and needs an update. The food in the breakfast is the probably the cheapest that you can find in any supermarket and even the coffee was bad which is unacceptable considering that Italy is the country of the good coffee. I'd say the location is the only asset but...

The hotel was very well laid out and the room was very nice, especially the bathroom (twin sink was nice as was the shower). Brilliant location near to cafe's and restaurants but not on the main drag. Just outside the hotel is one of the best spots to watch the Gondolas go by. When travelling to the hotel from Marco...

Dear Guest, Greetings from Venice. Thank you for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed our location, as you say just around the corner from San Zaccaria. This can be the destination of both public and private transportation. It is one of the most popular and busy waterbus stops of Venice. From there you can easily reach also the train...

We decided to head to Venice at short notice and booked the nice junior suite. It was a bit too big for u and it is better suited for a company of 4 to 5 persons. Nevertheless a perfect room with lots of space. We could have fitted a gondola in it I suppose. Hmmm! The room is spacious and...

Positives: We liked the quieter location yet close proximity to St. Mark's Square. The front desk of Christina and Deborah were both fantastic and supremely helpful. The washrooms were also very clean and modern, while the breakfast was delicious and the lady who helped us make coffee there was just kind and nice overall. Negatives: Room was small for two...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
