This hotel is in a great location. Just a short walk to Piazza San Marco. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. Good breakfast, great coffee and a nice rooftop terrace. Highly recommend it!
My wife and I stayed here as part of a 2 weeks trip to Italy. The hotel is right outside of San Marco Piazza, great location very close to the canal. The hotel staff is very friendly and can recommend many places to go and...More

i) The best parts of this hotel are the clerks Andrea and Massimo. They are so enthusiastic about Venice. They know exactly the best places to visit, including a workshop where they build and fix gondolas. They’ll tell you the best places to eat which...More

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and
Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

No bridges and I agree with the other user. There is a lot to do, you can shop around for a better deal on a gondola ride after you drop off your bags. Who knows what the weather will be? Hope you can get a refund. You do not need to buy any boat tickets in advance of your trip. There are LOTS of "water-buses" (vaporetto). It takes about an hour to get from the train to the hotel stop, and you get to see the grand canal during the ride. Ideal!

As Duncan F says, take the vaporetto going down the Grand Canal and get off at the San Marco stop. As I remember, the stop is about fifty meters or so from the edge of the piazza to the right. But turn to the left and walk over a bridge where the Calle Valleresso takes you away from the Canal (Harry's Bar is on the corner). This Calle is about fifty metres long and the hotel is just to the left at the end. Look for a small alleyway labelled Sotoportego Foscara between two smart shops and the entrance to the hotel is at the back.
