This hotel is so easy to get to, we arrived into Venice and it took us about 10 minutes to walk with our cases to the hotel. Welcoming staff who were happy to spend time answering any questions and giving guests a good amount of information on the area. Both myself and my mum loved the smart traditional style of...

Lovely traditional Moorish looking hotel right by a canal and bridge. Five minutes walk from the bus terminal so handy for the inevitable pulling of the luggage from the airport bus. Several nice restaurants nearby and the walk from there to Saint Mark's Square is full of interesting streets and ginnels. Friendly helpful staff. Wifi free if a touch haphazard....

I stayed at this hotel for a school trip. I appreciated the accommodations and found the hotel charming with its physical room keys and cute furniture. However, several people on my trip, including one of my roommates, had things stolen out of our rooms. I'm glad I wasn't a person who was affected, not to my knowledge at least, but...

HotelAlSole, Responsabile reception at Hotel Al Sole, responded to this review

Dear Mrs. Czarina L, thank you for your review. Honestly i find what you reported in this review a little bit particular, first because we do not had problems with stolen things in the hotel, second because if something happened in the room you should immediately advise reception. If reception was informed maybe there was the possibility to find what...

This is an old Palace. So has tons of charm. Staff is very nice. It's close to bus terminal so you can take bus to terminal and walk to this hotel but it is far from St Mark's Square and the popular area's so be prepared to walk.

This hotel was close to the vaporetto stop and the train station, both really nice things when wanting to get around. It wasn't too close to St. Mark's Square, which was good because that area is swamped with people during the day. There were several pretty good restaurants just down the street from the hotel. It serves breakfast in the...

Hotel Al Sole is a very special place to stay with the feel of a wealthy Italian home but with modern facilities. The rooms overlook either a garden (a luxury in Venice) or a canal which is lovely. Our room had high ceilings with a very large, long window and curtains and bedspread were gold with red pattern very rich...

May 5th - 9th hotel no air conditioning told off until summer. no bar open told not until summer. Bedrooms very small, small black flies in the bathroom believe they come up from the floor grill which we covered over. Continental b/fast very repetitive and very unexciting. No coffee, tea or any drinks available during day. The only positive was...

Wonderful location - make sure to get a room with a view over the canal. One of Venice's best and most venezian neighbourhoods. Only 5 min walking distance from the Pz Roma bus station, and no biggy walking to the Rialto Bridge or even St Marco square. Lots of nice restaurants close-by. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the...

Stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel is in a lovely area of Venice - within easy reach of all the main destinations, yet away from the tourist hordes (and prices). The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a second floor room overlooking the breakfast courtyard - a very comfortable bed, although the heating in the room...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
