Staff was very friendly, great breakfast, room, and location in the city. Stayed here with my wife on a late honeymoon touring Italy. The quality of the room and hotel staff was excellent. Even received a free bottle of wine because we were on honey moon!

What a lovely place to stay in Venice--everything was delightful! The staff is all charming , friendly and very helpful--special kudos to Chiara, Alessio, Anka, and Caterina. Our room was gorgeous with views of the Grand Canal from every window including the bathroom. The décor -both furniture and bedding were fit for a queen as the room name implied--Dogaressa. The...

We have just returned from a three night stay at the Hotel Canal Grande. Everything was wonderful from the moment we arrived directly outside on the water taxi from the airport. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. We had some lovely chats with 'Peter' during our evening drinks on the terrace overlooking the canal. Our room (201) was...

We didn't stay at this hotel, but I want to complement them because they helped us out immensely. After a long flight from the United States, we were deposited by the water water taxi in front of this hotel at night. However, we were in the wrong place! The hotel staff welcomed us in, gave us a map, called another...

The hotel is situated in an attractive square overlooking the Grand Canal. It's finished and decorated to a very high standard throughout. We had a room on the top floor with a view of the Canal which was very comfortable and quite spacious. Well equipped bathroom with good shower. Fantastic range of food on offer at breakfast . Service from...

We were originally scheduled to stay at their sister hotel Antiche Figure, however due to a problem with a boiler before we arrived, we were upgraded for free into their deluxe canal view suite! It was a great stay. They gave us awesome suggestions for places to go and breakfast was fantastic. Their concierge staff makes you immediately feel at...

Delicious Italian breakfast! beautiful rooms! Excellent service from all staff. Very helpful with tours, attractions, and directions. A cake was left in our room for my birthday which gave an extra, unexpected highlight to the day. Will definitely stay again on our next trip to Venice!

Lovely hotel with clean rooms with baroque decor. 10 mins walk from bus station and 5 minutes walk from rail station. Situated in a quaint square along side the Grand Canal. We started in the "Rialto" room - small, ground floor and windows back on to an alley way. We had a very noisy night because of the latter but...

We spent 4 nights at this beautiful hotel. Nothing but complements to the Management and Staff. Canal view room was tastefully decorated in a traditional Venenesian style, not lacking anything. A treat to open the shutters in the morning and watch canal life go by, listening to the sounds and marvelling at the mosaic of old and new boating styles....

It is very rare to find such a good hotel as there is always something or someone which lets it down. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough to anyone coming to Venice. This hotel exudes professionalism from everyone you come into contact with, the staff don't seem like staff they feel more like caring family members, who care about...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
