A fantastic location, minutes from St Marks Square and all that Venice has to offer. There are however, 3 very steep flights of stairs leading to the apartment, my elderly dad did have difficulty getting up. The apartment was big, spacious but with a bit too much 'shabby' in the shabby chic look. I think it's fair to say that...

Nightmare to find. (Not even the locals had heard of it) Very tatty building with dirty steep stairs to reception-the building was generally of a bad state of repair. Our room was very basic, dirty floors and very bad lighting. (Most of the bulbs in light fitting not working) Curtains filthy, view beyond was a wall - cracked glass on...

The location is fantastic, easy access to most of the "must see" venues. But most places in Venice are easy to walk to. The staff are pleasant and friendly, when they are there. I found that for the most part the building is unstaffed, which can be frustrating. We were only given one key, for four adults. We made it...

The hotel is located very close to St Marcus square, were all happenigs take place. The bed in the main room is big and comfortable, but I can't say the same for the second one. Breakfast is poor but served in the room any time requested. Excellent view of the canal from the windoow. No shampoo is offered, so be...

Not sure how to rate my stay. The location was great tucked a few blocks from St. Marks and away from the crowds. The room was large and our room had a view of the smaller canals. However breakfast was lacking, a package of toast and ground coffee in the cupboard, juices and jam packets in the refrigerator, but croissants...

We stayed here from 28th to 31st October 2016 for my 30th birthday. Firstly the hotel is nothing like the images on the website or on the booking sites. It is not the most expensive hotel so did not expect a palace but is also not the cheapest and would at least expect it to be clean. First impressions were...

Great value for money. The staff were so friendly, it was like staying with family. The rooms were very spacious and we were able to eat our breakfast in our room which was lovely. The B&B is beautiful, and our a room had a view of a canal. We constantly had gondolas passing our window, which was really beautiful. The...

My daughter, son in law and husband all visited for 4 nights to Celebrate our daughters birthday in Venice. First impression was great, we were actually staying in an apartment. The owners son met us in the square close to the apartment. He was in contact with our son in law from the time we arrived in Venice which was...

Location wise, it is pretty good. 5 mins from St Marks - gondolas with singers going right past the balcony - very Venetian. We (2 couples) stayed in the apartment (not the B&B, they have another building next door to the left), up 3 flights of stairs (not really an issue for us so not complaining about that, but people...

I will start by saying that I do not complain, ever! Feel free to look at my other reviews :) I am very thankful to the owner who met us and directed us to the B&B, and for the fact that we got a spectacular view of the Canal from our room. We wanted to pay less than your standard...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
