Great location and helpful staff but the rooms could definitely do with an upgrade, even just some new curtains or bed covers, simple stuff! The breakfast is great and seating is right on the water, so very enjoyable.

Everything was wonderful about the Bauer Hotel! It is 5-star and it lives up to the stars. The bedroom was huge and lavish; the bathroom was sumptuous. The breakfast buffet went on and on (including an array of food for gluten-free guests). Thanks to the staff, we were booked on a water taxi (which pulls up to the side door... More

The hotel is located in a prime location in Venice with old fashioned charm and style. Perfect service, beautiful rooms . . . Comfortable classy ambience. Happened to be staying when the Mardi Gras was on with lots of people parading around in stunning costumes and masks. Everyone should visit Venice at the beginning of February

Elegant 1930's hotel that keeps the atmosphere and the charm of a grand hotel. Rooms basic and refined at the same time, beautiful old marble bathroom and very comfortable beds. Breakfast in the old part of the hotel was the highlight of our stay. The breakfast room with fantastic views of the canal grande is simply magic!

We stayed one exceptional evening at the Bauer Hotel in Venice. The concierge was extremely helpful in obtaining dinner reservations and guiding us through the area. The room was lovely and breakfast exceptional. After checking out and making our way through the crowds to the boat, we hear someone calling our name... it was a Bauer Hotel employee that had... The staff at the Bauer Hotel is what made Venice one of the most perfect and memorable vacations my partner and I have experienced. We were greeted by Marco on reception, who escorted us to our room, which was kindly upgraded to a Junior Suite and out of this world! Clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped, with true Venetian décor.... More

I arrived here as a surprise from my husband, our 5 years anniversary. The hotel is very grand, and the location is very central. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from Saint Marks Square. Hotel room 653 is where we stayed no view, the room was clean and the bathroom room except from the water marks on the black tiles.... More

The Bauer Palazzo has a great location, a very good staff and mostly good (not great) dining but the facilities are from another era. The rooms are nice enough if a bit stuffy but the wardrobe and furnishings are from the 50s as are the elevators. The overall feel of the place is that the owners do not have the... More

Having travelled on the Orient Express to Venice, we wanted to maintain our luxury holiday experience, so we booked the Bauer Hotel. 5 star former palace located minutes from St Mark's Square. Understated when you first arrive, the hotel rooms are really spacious and luxurious. We dined there too and have our best food in Venice. I would totally recommend... More

A Beautifull hotel, which is central to most things. Staff here are very courteous & friendly. Loved our spacious room, almost looking over the Grand Canal, the furnishings all co-ordinating. Lovely comfortable bed. Breakfast was great, couldn't have been nicer. Soya Milk included, which pleased my husband. As this was our first visit to Venice , we did a lot... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
