Staying in Venice is not cheap but one can moderate their costs by staying in a Convent. This is the first C to remember when looking for digs in the city of water. The next Three will bring one to an A- experience in Venice. 1) Convenient: The convent is about 3 Venice blocks off of St. Marks Square. This would be...

Stayed at Istituto June 2014. We were able to get a quad. The rooms are basic and very clean. The beds are single with firm comfortable mattresses. There is no tv available. WIFI is almost non existent. The nuns do not speak English but they have a clerical assistant who speaks English and is very helpful. The location is conveniently...

Perfect location, very central. Close to Rialto and San Marco. Room basic but very clean. Bathroom good size and again very clean. Breakfast room for the use of guest were very basic. Sometimes a bit noisy because of school children, but no great problem. Great value for this central and historical accomodation. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed here during the summer of 2013 and loved it. It's exactly what our family (of 4) needed during our visit to Venice. Spotlessly clean, comfortable beds (singles), plenty of room and QUITE air conditioning. Plus its near St Marks AND is in a 600 year old school. Leaving every morning through the group of pre-school kids playing in...

Smack bang between the Rialto and st marks square, this couldn't have been better placed. Don't know that I could find better value for the location. Immaculately clean and tidy. The sisters were very welcoming and staff very helpful. Perfect place if you don't mind the curfew.

Great find for family of four including a toddler. Fantastic atmosphere and kind kid loving nuns. But ripped off by Monastery Stays - they charged well over 100 euro for on around a 500€ bill for using their booking service. Book direct with the Convent, of course they speak english or just use Google Translate!

My wife and I enjoyed 5 days here in March 2014. It is a convent cum primary school just 5 mins from Piazza San Marco. The facilities are basic, single beds quite hard, small but comprehensive ensuite bathroom and basic kitchen facilities downstairs. However it is spotlessly clean, there is a PC in the kitchen which is very handy. The...

My mother in law and I stayed here for 2 nights we each had different rooms. I had room 10 at the very end of the hall and it was a fairly large room, my mother in law was in room 12 on a different floor with a very small room. Both rooms came with air conditioning which was great,...

We just stayed here (early September), and it was absolutely wonderful, like a perfect, peaceful oasis! Amazing, for the price!! Lodging in Venice is expensive, but the Istituto is a much better price than most, and a great value!!! WARNING: Google maps does NOT accurately show the location, so do not use Google to find it!! LOCATION: Wonderful, at the...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
