I would call this hotel average. The location is great and the hotel decor is cute, but the amenities and service takes away from that. The service was pretty horrible, especially from the reception desk where it should count for the most! The room was okay, but I'd say the redeeming quality of this place is the prime location on...

This was our third visit to Venice and the hotel was by far the best we have stayed in. We had a 2nd floor room overlooking the Grand Canal so had an amazing view of palaces and pleasure and working vessels plying their way up and down the waterway. Our room, although a little tired looking, was large, comfortable, clean...

I have just come home from a wonderful visit to Venice and staying at San Cassiano. Yes, the hotel could do with a little updating BUT the hotel is clean, tidy the rooms are cleaned every day. The breakfast that is included is really good. there is plenty of choice to cater for everyone. The location of the hotel is...

My husband booked this hotel as a surprise for my 30th Birthday. We originally stayed here in August 2013 and I loved this hotel and always said it's the only hotel I'd come to in Venice. We returned in Feb 2017 for a weekend to attend a masquerade ball as part of the Venice Carnival. The hotel was just as...

The home of the artist Giacomo Favretto, the house has been tastefully remodelled as a small hotel and as such the service is brilliant and very personal. We were made welcome from the moment that we arrived to the sad moment that we had to leave. With imposing views across the Grand Canal and 2 minutes from the Rialto Bridge...

The San Cassiano is in a great location close to the Rialto bridge and about 15 min walk to St mark's , the hotel itself was a bit disappointing the room I booked was a superior double but superior it certainly wasn't , the only difference was a double is smaller according to the receptionist maybe I was expecting more...

Yes it is old and a bit tired in (very few) places but what do you expect from a 600 year old building right on the Grand Canal in Venice! It is a lovely little hotel and we were really happy with our choice. The view from the breakfast room and front door is stunning. We had a 'normal' room...

San Cassiano Ca Favretto is one of the best situated hotels in Venice. Very central, but luckily away from all the crowed streets near the main tourist attractions, and right on the Grand Canal. I had a lovely single en-suite room(332) on the 3rd floor(no lift, but I knew that when I made the booking). It was small but not...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
